I’m not using his 1 point in 10 games to say he’s an 8 point player per season. I’m using the fact that 4 NHL management teams have decided he’s nothing more than a fringe NHLer/AHLer to support the fact that Zohorna is nothing special. He’s a fine depth guy that would do similarly poorly as guys like O’Connor and Harkins in their usage. Me thinking Zohorna is nothing more than that has nothing to do with “anger or ego”, it aligns with what multiple NHL front offices think.

The issue with the bottom-6 deals with Sullivan having a shitty system for non-skilled players to be able to produce. This team treats the front of the net like the plague and I don’t remember the last time I saw the bottom-6 have a sustained cycle in the offensive zone. Zohorna ain’t changing any of that and frankly would do just as badly.

This convo is exhausting. If you like this bottom-six garbage so much then enjoy.

You are right. When your star-studded top 6 regularly takes shifts, periods and nights off - you need bottom 6 to fill in for them.

The question is - was this team built with an integral idea that the top-6 will regularly take shifts, periods and nights off?

I think this is generally how the team is going to be looking, just inconsistent from both game to game and also period to period. With that being said, the depth guys clearly have the role of "don't lose us games" and the 3rd pair was horrendous today.

This team is just going to have off-games due to their age, but these depth guys should be sitting in the pressbox if they blow the game. Both POJ and Ruhwedel were on the ice for 3 goals against today and both were terrible. There is zero excuse to be on the ice for 3 goals against in less than 12 minutes of ice time. If the guys on the bottom pair can't handle that, they shouldn't be playing.

The depth players on this team explicitly have a role of "don't lose us games". If they start losing the team games, they shouldn't be playing.

I wonder how their age causes them to have off-games after three days off.

Please stop looking for excuses Our stars are lazy and lost their drive to win long time ago.

Many people who are complaining about bottom 6 and 3rd pair don't realize one thing: this team is intentionally built to be top heavy with the idea that the stars will be consistently carrying the offense. You can't have a few expensive stars and highly talented bottom 6 at the same time unless you've had a top draft picks in previous years. There's only so much cap space to go around. This bottom 6 and 3rd pair aren't supposed to be very good. Don't expect it from them. Every time Pens underperform - look in the direction of the stars. Or alternatively - in the direction of the management who built the team based on unrealistic premises and wrongly bet on the aging stars to carry the team consistently.

It took Sully awhile to figure out Detroit coach was abusing Ruh-Poj with his first line. Sully finally broke up the pairing from hell and things magically got a little better.

It would be nice to think we have something in the org that would be a step up from our bottom pair on D or our bottom 6 (- Eller, who’s looked ok), but I don’t think anyone fits that bill, although I haven’t seen Ludvig play.

Dude gets outplayed near 100% of the time and the Penguins almost always win in spite of him.
