Well Until the 3rd Period Sid should have been on a Milk Carton & if the 1st 2 Periods were Sullivan's Fault I guess the 3rd Period was because of him then ?
again the third period is when L1 and L2 brought it up a notch...we still did not get anything from L3 and L4, He can do something about it. He dropped Nieto to third and it immediately looked a bit better, so credit there, he switched Graves and POJ, that looked better, credit there, but why do all of this in desperation, can some of this be done upfront since its obvious to even us idiots on HF Boards, I think thats the loudest complain about him...

This team is old because this coach made it this way. When you consistently refuse to even try youth and show a massive hard on for veterans, this is what happens.

Puustinen, Hallander, etc etc deserved shots over trash like Harkins and Carter or even a useless turd like Heinen last year.

Keep blaming the GM's that have come and gone and kept doing the same which should literally tell blokes that yeah the GM will make the swing for some big trades that he feels is right but most of it is finding players that the coach wants to use and the coach only wants to use established veterans that he doesn't need to actually coach.

This team is old because of that. If you scratch Carter for a dozen games, the GM takes notice and will dump him in some way he can figure out. When you keep playing a 33yr old jobber 7-8th dman as a regular, you show the GM you really need this turd and that's also a problem.
And you better believe Sid is protecting his guys, including Sully. It's quite selfish behavior. It may take a while, but even the most ignorant fanboys at the arena are eventually going to wake up to the ruse that they have been sold and will turn on the beloved trio.

As Jordan said in documentary about the GM breaking up the older team, "let us defend until we lose, then do what you have to do". The Pens are going on year 6 of at least a 10 year swan song.

I think the bottom-6 players aren’t good enough clearly, but I’m also fully at the point where I believe Sullivan’s offensive setup is not at all compatible with the kind of bottom-6 he wants. The offense requires some skill and transition game but he uses the bottom-6 like a pure defensive group. That’s fundamentally incompatible, any sort of player who has the talent to succeed offensively while also being good defensively is a top-6 forward.

I think Reilly Smith is a perfect personification of the “perfect” Mike Sullivan player but you can’t find bottom-6 versions of guys like Smith. They either can’t cut it offensively or they can’t cut it defensively.

Which is a perfect example of how bad of a coach he is. I use to think it was an issue between coach and Gm. In reality it’s Sullivan can’t agree with himself.

My hope in Dubas being a head strong voice of reason and component of change is waning already.

If he studied this team and is well prepared then he knows this roster is less the issue than the coach needing to be fired and he needs to make that move yesterday.
We are 4 games in.... 4. Fire the coach 4 games in? Pipe dream. My hope is that he at least starts to make roster changes that force Sullivan's hand in some of his dumber lineup decisions. Dubas won't stand pat, of that I'm almost certain.

It was a low-event game because the Pens lacked determination to take it to Detroit. They settled for less.
That's not a good defensive team over there.

If it was March or April, the urgency level would have been different. They are taking early games casually again.
Welcome to the Penguins of the last 30 + years.... other than perhaps the "X Generation". That team tried hard, they just straight up sucked.

Why not double shift top six into the bottom six?

I know they did this stuff years ago.

actuall the expected goals don't look all that bad...thats because they are not giving up too many glorious chances, but they are killing the momentum and flow of the game by getting caved in...

you can't have them playing 25-26 minutes this early in the season, they are old...I would rather see balanced lines and give some other guys a shot and see what happens

This one might be your best yet!

I had 2 glaring concerns after the Karlsson trade. Lack of cap space to address depth issues and our team became premium toilet paper soft. People thought I was overreacting about the cap space issue. Retaining on Petry and not getting more retained on Karlsson was a huge problem and now even worse. We have zero room to maneuver. Carter is here to stay, hes not waiving and hes not going on LTIR. There is no one else to move in the bottom 6 to get cap space. I really wonder what Poulin could bring to the 3rd line.

We all wonder...and why is it so hard to try it? losing one of these empty jerseys through waiver...no one will claim them anyways..

DK morning podcast went after Sullivan for putting the fourth line out there in a 4-3 game when we needed a goal, and mostly roasted Carter lol, who looks definitively done to me too…and that he’s mostly been getting chances to score and can’t is the cherry on top lol

Rewh single handedly gave the penguins a two goal defeceit to overcome. I have no idea what the guy is doing starting, but Sullied know best right.

After Rooo did his dirty doings the penguins got a good old fashioned schlacking.

Age and all... stars don't have a big night = loss.

Not sure what else Karlsson could of done last night, unless you wanted him to hide Ruhs equipment during intermission.

No. but you can spread out their 20/21 minutes doing it they are already playing, in a last change environment and that dreaded 2nd period long changes to help create mismatches.

What's the difference?

Second, it doesn't have to be Sid/Geno, there are adequate wingers whom could double shift.

Jake, Rust, Smith and Rakell.

that requires creativity and a little bit of willing to experiment on the fly...He was so conservative last year in his coaching, because he knew we were in trouble and I think that deep in his heart he still feels that he is right and that this combo will "give him best chance to win". I think he may have brainwashed himself, I am hoping that Dubas is aguy that may snap him out of his hypnotic state he is right now...
