Certainly not the Canucks best win, but we will take the two points.

Kassian wasn't great tonight, but I still find it frustrating to watch the Canucks leading goal scorer demoted to the 3rd line when trailing by two goals.

Let's not go through this again, AV. At the very least, Kassian has proven he deserves an extended look in the top six. Hopefully things settle down once Kesler and Booth are back.

Wow, for all the people who love to write about how the Canucks won but played lousy, there's your game, have at 'er. For me, a win's a win, good job boys, they can't all be pretty. Sometimes the ugly ones are the best of all.

If I had a buck for everytime I said that ...

By the way, I've finally figured out the strategy the Canucks are using. We purposely fire shots at the other teams players while in the offensive zone until they get injured. Ingenious!:sarcasm:

He was coughing a few times when on camera.

I remember that... I recall thinking, "seriously, cover your mouth when you cough...". ; )

Maybe he has the Plague or something...passed it onto the team...only Lou and Tanev have the superhuman antibodies to repel it.

; )

He was very poor and they weren't getting anything done with him on that line. I would say AV made the right call.

It's a wonder this team scored their only 2 regulation goals with him on the ice...

The bank shot by Hansen and half screened slapper from the blueline by Bieksa? Didn't see Schroeder's offensive instincts, creativity or ability to make plays shine through on either play...

What I did see though is him missing 2 feet wide on a glorious set up. That's ashot you need to hit the net with.

Can you recall a play tonight where Schroeder attacked with the puck and looked dangerous or created a scoring chance?

That was the attitude by some before we headed into playoffs last year and won the president trophy.

Just me or does Hall not look elite? I always figured him for a 60-70ish point guy.

he drives play. by being on the ice, everybody gets more scoring chances because he's really good at getting them from his end of the rink to the opponent's

he's a really good player and the kind of player you can build off of, because no matter who he's with they're going to get opportunities

I actually didn't like Schroeder's offensive game tonight. His play without the puck has been a positive but with the puck he's been a disappointment IMO. Just doesn't look like he can beat NHL defenders with the puck on his stick, shoots wide on his scoring chances, doesn't draw defenders out of position to set up his wingers very often...

Does anyone look less dangerous than Chris Higgins? Has he finished a check this season?

The Canucks are really in need of another forward with a high skillevel and some creativity. A guy like David Perron would do wonders for our safe, predictable offense.

40 shots on Dubnyk, but as usual, too many of the non dangerous variety.

Tanev and Ballard continue to impress.

I don't know what you expect Schroeder to do in a game like this? You're right, he still has to create more offensively one on one, but that will come. This game? I didn't see teammates connect on anything. And Schroeder's line scored...

This game is a complete write off.

I just want to point out that Ballard kept that last sequence alive twice - otherwise they don't score that goal.

Yep Ballard made a beauty play on the game winner...

As a whole, the team looked like they have a case of the Casual Kev's tonight. We seemed to be skating in quick sand for a lot of the night.

I thought it was an entertaining game. Lots of good chances at both ends. Both teams had stretches where they carried the play. Drama and lols. A little bit of everything, cept some roughness.

Didn't start well, but the line-up shake by AV got things going. Sedins and Bieksa had some ugly and some beautiful. Luongo played great again. Ballard played well again. Hamhuis and Higgins had their best games.

PP sucks. As far as I'm concerned, the biggest hole in the line-up is a PP QB. When Kesler gets back, I wouldn't mind him on the point.

Really liking Schroeder's game. He fought the puck a bit tonight, but still played well defensively and wins his share of puck battles. Hodgson is further along in his development, but with JS's emerging two-way game, I'm not sure I'd trade then straight up right now.

For the Oilers young guns, none really scare me. Yak imo is the only one knocking at the door of elite. Hall as already said is pretty limited. Looks like the next Geoff Sanderson. Bit too early to say on RNH, but he's no where near a #1C right now. I've seen 4-5 Oil games now, and he's invisible save for 2-3 flashes a game. Has the skill to maybe become elite, but we'll see.

Eberle imo will be one of those guys that gets big money because of his intangibles/clutchness, but then doesn't produce enough in the regular season to justify his caphit and becomes a scapegoat. J.Schultz has mad puck skillz but can't play defense to save his life. No way he'd be in our top 23 right now. Do think he could be a special player though.

For three consecutive FOAs, I don't see any generational talents on their team. Maybe a couple become elite, but not even that's guaranteed imo. As a Canuck fan, there's certainly other 3 year stretches where I wouldn't want the Oil to have the #1 pick.

This game is a complete write off.

The Oilers are the worst defensive team he will play. He needs to look dangerous against a team like this, because he will be in very tough against the big, strong defensive clubs in the West.

He's a rookie, so I'm not expecting him to set the world on fire. I just didn't see his offensive game tonight as impressive. It was pretty lacklustre IMO.

Schroeder needs to generate and produce more offense to stay in the lineup every night. He's had some positive moments but still looks like a very marginal NHL player at this point.

Team that deserved to win, won. Fantastic to see Tanev stick it top corner. You can see how well he is liked by his team mates. Good to see defense produce offense because right now the team is going to need offense from somewhere. Timing for many players just not there

The Good

Hansen - workhorse who seems to have even got faster. Great two way game. Just hope Jensen has got this kind of speed.

Raymond - playing very well. Producing chances all the time and showing great speed in moving the puck from his territory. Play along the boards this year is greatly improved. Seems much stronger.

Hamhuis - far and away the best player. His mobility is simply outstanding. Worked his butt off in his own zone to mop up for the mistake of others

Edler - much better effort. One on one play was very good

Luongo - not his best effort but at crucial moments he was huge

Schroeder - some errant passes and still not converting chances but really working every zone. Needs to settle himself a little more with the puck in scoring positions. Given his workload, Schroeder is playing very well

Ballard - not without mistakes but overall a real positive for this team. Keeps this up and the Canucks are going to looking elsewhere for a buyout

Not so good

Garrison - continues to react to situations slowly. Gets caught too flat-footed too much. Needs to get some flow in his play. Plays in short bursts. Also needs to show more poise with the puck rather than whipping it around. Got to give him time to work with his teammates and you hope it comes. Also lack of pre-season to work with the team and lack of training time because of injury has to be factored in here.

D. Sedin - thought Henrik was better but Daniel showing little strength on the puck and making too many weak passes. Effort is there but little execution.

Other thoughts

PP is getting better but a long way from good

Kassian showed some of the reasons why some see inconsistency. Gets out of team concept and starts coasting around making dangerous passes. Seems to do things way too quickly at times and then at other times tries to slow down the game. Game pacing and knowing where and when to use speed still needs to be worked on. This is where the patience factor becomes important. Kassian is still a young player and stills needs a lot of coaching up. However, the upside here is huge

Did not think this was one of Tanev's best games however you could see him coming off the bench in OT with real determination. Often seems to hold back on the offense but sure didn't in the OT

Edmonton really hasn't changed much from last season - still playing the 6 man goalie system. Really makes for crappy hockey

I thought Garrison actually had a pretty decent game. Good play along the boards, did a decent job of covering for Bieksa who was downright awful. One of his better outings in my opinion.
