NHL refs are the worst of all, they basically make many mistakes every night when all the games are played the same, both teams play the trap etc. At the IIHF level there's a lot of different styles and matchups and the games are higher intensity so tougher to referee.

Everything quoted above is wrong.

I knew the Czech were not that good, now Czech or Russia might play Kazakhstan in the relegation!
I don't think there's a difference in refs, better or worse. They're simply following instructions.

I just don't buy it, I mean what would they do to convince refs from Canada of all places to do this? bribe them? they simply could not ever get caught doing something like that or they would be in such deep ****. So if not that what is the other incentive they can offer?

They sucked today, it is simple as that.
maybe but wouldn't surprise me ..

Well deserved win for Germans. Czechs did not deserve to come back.
Tough game to watch though. Way too many penalties.

Im starting to think the Gold medal winner will be the most disciplined team....
Yup, German's were much better. I think this lands us playing Kazakhstan to stay in top pool.

The amazing thing was the pace for the game especially in the third period was very non-German. They opened it up and could skate and create. It reminds me of how the Swiss have come on in that regard. It would be great if another nation rises because we all get the benefit of seeing great hockey and better players.

No kidding.. I've posted the refs names throughout. They have no incentive to gift the Czechs a win or to be against Germans. They just suck at their jobs.

Well deserved, Germany, better team won. Reffs were terrible on both sides but Germans had it tougher with them.

In NHL they almost can't call a penalty when a team is losing by 2 goals it's so funny to watch.

In IIHF they call too many penalties but it's less bad than not enough...

Dammit. Just remembered I was thinking 4-3 Germany before this game started but I woke up too late to actually post it. I guess you don't get bragging rights if you have no proof

Following the rulebook/Consistency >>>>> Trying to manage a game/Swallowing their whistles/Different playoff "rules"

In all seriousness, I think the critical difference in terms of philosophy is that, when they aren't sure about something, IIHF refs err on the side of calling something whereas NHL refs err on the side of not calling something.

Personally I know which approach I prefer.

Only using HFBoards and the Czech board.. didn't really see much in the way of anyone thinking the Czechs were the favourite.
Well bookmakers gave 6 to 1 chance for Germany or something like that...

Regarding out other discussion, Gavrikov and Lyubushkin could be added to the list. But surely, that number is never going to be high, AHL is the proofing grounds and the place to adjust, teams will only throw the player straight from Europe into the NHL if they are absolutely sure or they have no other choice. In both cases, that's a rare occurrence.

I agree 100%. At least you can adapt because it's consistent. If you keep getting called, you can just adapt and cheat less. In the NHL you know you can start cheating if you are behind or in the stanley cup playoffs. It's even more ridiculous than what happened today imo.
