You know, I still think the smartest play is Sheary-Sid-Horny, HGR, and Jake-Brass-Phil. I also would love the 4 line model without Kuhn that has been discussed.

BUT, here's what I think happens. Winger pairs stay the same. When Brass returns, one of him or Sheahan is on L3, and the other is on L4.

In some ways similar to Letang, I think HMK will be the life or death of this team, depending upon which Phil you get.

Just gotta get Phil away from Geno...I don’t think Sully has the balls to play Brass on L4...I think he’s going to split Sheary and Horny because Sid won’t want to play with them and he’s not going to play them on L4...only other option is to play them with Brass and move Phil somewhere...what about L1? Hasn’t been tried and no one knows why...

shame sully will not keep the third line intact. Sheahan is simply not as good as a fourth line center. He works better with skill and guys who can finish. Brassard and Kessel looks good on paper. Habs forecheck is causing some issues. Pens forwards at times don't hit anything.

Big O doesn’t flinch when hit going for that puck. So strong

That's why you use your depth and olay 4 good lines. Enough with the Kuhns of the world.

I'd do:

Guentzel-Sid-ZAR
Hagelin-Malkin-Horqnvist
Sheary-Brassard-Kessel
Kunhackl-Sheahan-Rust

Maybe swap Sheary/Rust depending on who is playing well in a given game. Or swap ZAR/Rust

I think we've seen something similar, but less pronounced, with Geno the last week and a half. Not floating, but off his rhythm, so he isn't going to go out of his way to kill himself.

As a side note, I was told a while ago that one of Sid's issues playing with Horny is the guy goes to the net and effectively screams 'get me the puck, I'm open'. Drove Sid nuts, and one side effect was it meant Sid had to do a ton of battling in the dirty areas with less support. I think we saw a similar things with HGH. When the line started, Horny was in the dirty areas battling to get Geno the puck. Over time, it became Geno battling in the dirty areas to get Horny the puck. When the rhythm was there, he'd do it, but this also was the origin of HGH starting to be 'off'. When it got off more and more, I think he took a step back, and it just threw the whole line's rhythm off even more. I think you've seen something similar with Sid with several linemates over the course of the year. And, yes, long story short, maybe that's where you now are at with Phil.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Malkin were banged up but I could see it just being the comedown from a high. Or both.

If you’re looking for the best Hornqvist complement for C/M then I don’t think they have it if that’s the problem.

I bet crosby and Hornqvist annoy the shit out of everyone on the bench when they’re together, though. Similar brands of crazy meeting.

IF I could figure out a RW for Geno . . .

Jake-Sid-Rust
Hags-Geno-???
ZAR-Brass-Phil
Sheary-Sheahan-Horny

I wonder if Jooris could work. Simon won't play. We don't want Kuhn. IF Rust is with Sid and you want 4 lines, then it seems to be your only option. Not for more than 8 minutes at ES. Then, you have Geno take some shifts with other combos to get his minutes.

Another thing that won't happen . . .

Easier to PK when youre out of the playoffs. No pressure and can be as aggressive as you want.

Not putting much stock into how our powerplay looks against teams out of the race.

The PK however..
