I think you missed my point.
If a team trades away its draft picks, it loses the OPPORTUNITY to draft these types of players. The only guarantee in the draft is you will not draft a high quality franchise player when you don't have any picks.

So, it's opportunity cost and weighing assets.

We can have two first round picks, or one first round pick and one second round pick with the opportunity to draft someone who has a <1% chance at becoming a high-impact NHL player for 15 years. Or, we can trade that chance at the near guarantee of adding a proven veteran like MSL for a playoff run.

Hindsight is 20/20, etc...

Scratch Miller and put Carcillo back in. No idea why AV took him out in the first place. Or scratch Dorsett and put Carcillo in - the only thing Dorsett does better than Carcillo is skate and lose fights.

If the Rangers come out and get pushed around again, its game over. Stop the cute cross ice passes, get below the goal line and jam the net. The Flyers are blocking point shots and defending the middle of the ice. You gotta win this game on the boards and below the goal line.

Show me a player not named Pouliot Brassard or Zucc that will take it to the crease.

And if this is the last game of the season, I would like to see some real value for that $14.8m we are paying those two guys. Buy one out and trade the other one.

I agree with everything you said!

Carcillo - He is not going to score every game but he provides a ton of energy and unlike bums like Nash, he does NOT back down from anyone on the Flyers. That's important in a physical series.
Also important that he goes straight to the net. Miller does it sometimes, but not consistently. Miller also does make some horrible mistakes defensively...that CANNOT happen in a Game 7. Miller is just not ready for the pressure of all this, he will someday, but not in a Game 7 right now.

I also agree with stopping all the cute stuff. I mean, we had all kinds of set plays in Game 6 that meant nothing...like that **** Brassard tried to pull on the faceoff by winning the puck forward...its useless ****.

The game plan is not difficult:
1. Play 5 on 5 - we are better than Philly 5 on 5 ...so don't take stupid penalties.

2. Get to Net - Mason gives up HUGE rebounds on almost every shot, so just get to the net and you will score.

3. Play physical - We don't need to be as physical as Philly , but we can't back down from them, especially around our own net where Simmonds is having a freaking PICNIC right now.

Do all that and we will win. We are the better team.

I didn't watch the game last night but I find it almost comical that people around here are getting this bent out shape by blaming players via trades, Sather and the draft, FAs, etc.
I chalk it up to watching this team for so long that I've tempered my expectations, especially since Dolan took over but did anyone around here actually expect or still expect the Rangers to win the Stanley Cup this year?
Complain all you want about bad trades, bad drafting and bad signings. All of us that posted around here around the lockout knew this process would take 8-10 years to rebuild an organization from the ground up... which at the time was pretty much a laughing stock.
I remember people going bat ***** over a player like Josef Balej and ready to name Jed Ortmeyer as the next Captain.
People have to get a grip.
This off-season is probably one of the biggest in years in terms building around those core players who will be entering their primes. Very few personnel adjustments need to be made for this team to make some real noise. Take some solace in that Gorton is in the front office.

Or they continually trade picks, consistently be above average but not great. Acquire players who have a 2-4 year window of being productive pieces. When one wanes move more picks to prolong the cycle.

Needing a miracle to reach the ECF let alone surpass it.

I think they think Dorsett flailed into Mason. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Clearly, DD has built a reputation around the league as a diver, as that is now the 2nd time he's been called for nearly identical plays.

Maybe the refs should call a dive on Giroux or MacDonald every now and then....

The refs in their infinite wisdom felt that Dorsett had all the time in the world to not fall over Mason the way he did, so they called him for interference.

He'll win the fight too. Garden will be going crazy. He'll stare down his teammates as he skates to the box. Simmonds will get the extra minor for instigating.

We do nothing on the powerplay, Simmonds comes out of the box, scores a semi-breakaway goal from the blue line on a weak wrister, everyone applauds Hank because it was a breakaway therefore physically scientifically impossible to stop, and then the floodgates open en route to a 7-2 defeat.

Didnt Nash really hand it to someone earlier in the season? Anyone recall who ? Nash can be a angry big boy if he wants to, surely he's able to deliver some punches (as we lack an actual real big enforcer.) Tho I suppose Nash in the box might not be the best place for him

We traded a 1st in 2013 for Nash. Nash has done NOTHING for the Rangers in the PO's.

We traded a 1st in 2015 for St. Louis. He's having a very solid post season for us, but by the looks of things (from my POV only) it's going to be one and done for this team.

Whe you have a system as shallow as the Rangers, trading away 1st rounders is never a bright idea. Trading away (potentially) three in a row is completely stupid.

No, remember, picks possibly not working out is a much worse scenario than year-in, year-out mediocrity.

Well, not terribly if you consider the fact he's been our best forward.

He'll be around for at least one more year, many posters (myself not included in that just yet) believe even more after that.

I wouldn't call trading two draft-picks "decimating" your system. But, to each their own.
