GDT: Game 69 Canes @ Sharks 7:30

Ostapsuck would have been -7 if he played more than 10:49, but at least he had a hit.

Well, they didn't completely embarrass themselves, so... win?
The team is giving up fewer goals than at the beginning of the season despite trading their best goaltender and 2 of their 3 best defensemen. I guess that counts as progress around here.

Offense has gone in the tank though.

Offense runs through Celebrini doing magical things, but like most rookies, teams started adjusting and taking away the easy lanes and he hasn’t evolved yet. Still making nice plays but he struggles to drive play now. Can’t expect miracles from an 18 year old.

Slavin wasn’t make him randomly lose his edges all night or just randomly fall or make an unnecessary pass. Most of this happened when no one was near him
Both can be true. He stunk tonight. But Slavin was all over him. Unacceptable but it's whatever
I guess I noticed Slavin's good plays more than I noticed Mack's bad plays. The canes in general are just good at defense

Mukh also with the big stinker. When's the draft?
Warsofsky, on Shakir Mukhamadullin:

I thought Muk was outstanding tonight. We’re seeing some real growth over these last two, three weeks since the 4 Nations break there.

He’s getting more comfortable [beating the F1]. He’s come a long way here in a little bit. He’s a puck-moving guy, can make plays, and now we’re starting to see that a little bit.

This season the coach has decided to saddle him with ineffective players and asked him to drag them. Most times they have dragged down his effectiveness, let alone against a top defensive team. Toffoli simply will never get separation from the defense and Graf is just not a top 6 player at this time. He should have moved Eklund up in place of Graf at the latest halfway through the game.

Right now they are using the 2nd line as a scoring line and hoping the top line doesn't get annihilated every night. I guess it's tough with this roster, we really do not have a legitimate top 6 forward to play on one of those lines.

Yeah, as I've said before, it's less a coaching mistake and more a roster problem. Move Eklund up, now your second line is dependent on Graf (who might be able to hack it as a solid 3rd liner, but 2nd line is asking a lot).

And Toffoli has a chance at 30 goals on this team... sure, he's not fast, but he's smart as hell and he has an incredible release, so ... hard to blame the coaching staff for putting your best goal scorer with your top center. If Toffoli is our best scorer, and that's not good enough... that's a roster problem.
