I’m just suupperrrr full of sodium atm
Yep. Same here. And it's not just about this game or my team.
Feels to me that the league likes to come up with what they think are great stories, and then push them, and I've felt the same way watching games between teams I do not care about.
If the brass are making up story lines they think will be attractive to audiences, rather than letting those arise out of the play on the ice, then referees are going to be very reluctant to be seen as the ones that interfered with that. You don't need to have explicit corruption to introduce bias into the officiating.

I don't know if there was any post game presser given it was an outdoor game but I hope Mclellan didn't mince words when it comes to the high stick on Ed.

Listening to Lalonde talk about how the refs have a hard job always made me want to go Elvis Presley on my television.

The wings played good enough to win but made enough mistakes to hand the game away and then the refs really handed the game away. To miss that high stick is inexcusable especially when you can see the ref looking right at it.
Having said that as I said earlier the only line that actually consistently generated scoring chances all game and zone time was the 2nd line, with edvinsson and AJ. Those 5 played really strong games offensively.

Ed needed to be stronger on the pk . But besides that he had a really good game. Frustrating he can be high sticked like that at the end and it's what costs us.

I am really bothered by Larkin. The top line was a no show again. Raymond had a couple nice shifts in the first but Larkin and kasper were awful tonight again. I'm super frustrated by this. Larkin talks and talks about how badly he wants the playoffs. Then in games that really matter- he's a no show. Last year near the end we played head to head games against the caps. Larkin was a no show and we shit the bed. Then who beat us out for that final spot? Fast forward to now. 2 key games and we lose both and Larkin was a no show. I think if we miss the playoffs again this year the team should seriously look at taking the C off of Larkin.

Also I'm officially sick of the seider chiarot pair. They got stuck in our d zone lots tonight and didn't get much offense zone time pressure. Chiarot is an anchor to seider. As much as I like AJ with ed for now, if Stevie doesn't make a move then it's time to put the twin towers back together. Play them more like 28 min a game and play chiarot on the 2nd pairing with AJ for like 18 min. But for the love of God get rid of holl. He's soooo slow and useless.

Let's see how the team can respond Tuesday. Every single game went against us today so hopefully luck comes back to us a bit this week! And hopefully Yzerman makes some sort of move.

The missed called on Edvinsson leading to the game winner is exactly whats wrong with the NHL. Everyone could see it was an unfair goal but nothing could be done about it and fans left enraged of course! Why on earth would you not be able to challenge for a clear cut penalty? Limit the challenges to 2 per game or something, at least we wont have see a farce like this again!

Would for sure rather watch the Wings, but best on best is always fun. I hope they play with intensity, but obviously hope Larkin and Ray come back healthy and ready for the playoff push.

I'm looking forward to seeing Raymond compete with the best players in the world. He's severely underrated league-wide, so I hope he lights it up.

Detroit got robbed tonight.

One of the worst non-calls on the year.

Dominated 3/4 of the game and came up with nothing to show for.

Hopefully this loss doesn’t deflate the group’s moral because they should have Been on the winning side tonight.

Line #2 played amazing.

#53 and #8 had a phenomenal game.

#3’s Brain lapse cost the team a goal again.

#92 didn’t have a stand out game. Would have preferred a line juggle in order to try and make a spark for the top line.

Still can’t believe how a 8’ tall Edvinsson gets high sticked and it goes unnoticed.

My question: was Ed playing to get a call or to prevent a goal. If we're playing for calls, we might as well continue on and us fans can have righteous indignation and we can talk about about what could have been except for the refs.

I'm just really uncomfortable with the idea that we'll need the refs to get it right to be successful.

We need to find ways to be successful in spite of the refs

I agree. This team needs to learn to win despite crappy officiating, because that is obviously an unavoidable reality in this league. He is right to make that clear.
On the other hand, I would really like to see less crappy officiating.

Obviously the missed all is the turning point of the game.
I am a bit surprised that only I have seen it right why it had to be called a penalty.
Edvidsson was not only high sticked, he was also tripped/slew footed. I was watching that play a few times to see why he fell. Watch the replay and you will see it.
Top line no show up again. I would almost say that's fine, but Raymond did everything he could to make sure we lose. 2 brutal turnovers with the goalie out and they scored after the 3rd attempt. What was Raymond thinking? How can he make those mistakes? It looked like he wanted them to score the EN.
Raymond was our worst player by far. I never thought someone could be worse than Holl, but Raymond got it tonight.

Theres certain calls that have nuance/interpretation involved with them. But highsticking is clear cut, was contact made or not? It was so call it. High sticking could easily be challenged if majors are now

yeah, watching replays this morning doesn't make it better. Danforth lifted Ed's stick and just kept going to rake his stick across ed's face and helmet. And the ref is staring at it and swallowing his whistle because it's not like high sticking is an automatic penalty.

I've banged this drum a bit before, but the Wings need to get harder to play against. If you want to say dirtier, I'm fine with it. The NHL is allowing more and more to go uncalled, and if the Wings don't embrace it they are just screwing themselves. They learned this lesson in 95 and 96 but hopefully they don't need to see a guy get his face rearranged before they do something about it this time.

Ok.

Game was rigged. I’m thoroughly convinced.

Ugh I’m so bothered by that game. Goodness we deserved so much better.
Lol, I had an eyebrow pre-raised going into this with the "event" it was and the way they made it with the Jhonny hockey death, correlating the football teams, etc.

Six weeks ago, this game meant nothing... both teams surged into playoff position for interest and the feel-good story happened with Columbus. I'm not saying sports is rigged but at times you REALLY question it imo. lol. Especially with the gambling, etc.

He maybe hasn't been as sharp but the big problems tonight were the Wings defense, not Talbot.

Holl with a crap play behind his own net, Ed with bad coverage on the PK, someone with bad coverage by the side of the net and then Kane not being on his man. Then that last shitshow of a goal.

Yes the shot totals were low but those were all quality scoring chances.

That bad PK was on Ed for sure, but 2 of the goals were on Talbot. The 4th was on the ref’s for missing one of the most blatant reckless high sticks I’ve seen in a while.

I only believe this like 10%, but everything was such a great story in 4-nations aswell. It felt heavily influenced by reffing aswell.

I'm over the call, I'm more annoyed they came out flat Thursday because this kind of thing can happen and you miss out on points. So you can't toss points away because you weren't feeling it that night. Losing because you got goalied, bounces/calls didn't go your way while you outplayed them is a thing I can live with. But coming out looking like you don't care and losing is garbage.

Just like the lackluster games they played against the Sharks, I swear it's crazy they haven't learned this yet despite missing the playoffs by a tie breaker.
