I said this during the GDT, but unless you're a contender to make a deep playoff run, you shouldn't trade assets just to make the playoffs and get bounced early.

This team needs two good forwards and two good defensemen to make a deep playoff run.
They need to get into the playoffs and there are a few younger players available who are more than rentals, this is the deadline and year that they need to make a run, no excuses this year

Oh yeah? Tell me what have we done monumental at the trade deadline since he got here to directly help the team?!!! Actually don't even bother i aint got time for this shit!!!!!
The answer is nothing.

The season is over lol...we have a ton of road games, and so many tough teams to play down the stretch. These 2 gamrs were eerily similar to the Ottawa games from 2 years ago. We legit just missed the playoffs in 48 hours lol

I guess I'll go watch some video on the 2025 draft prospects, here's hoping we find someone a hell of a lot better than Brandsegg-Nygard

Insane no call. And this is from a league that encourages sports betting. What a joke. Complete conflict of interest. You CANNOT have archaic rules like this in 2025 with replay at our fingertips. Not to mention that the refs probably refused to call this in realtime because of game management, where they don’t call obvious penalties because of the flow of the game and how they “don’t want to impact the outcome”. Which in itself is terrible for the sport.

For such a great sport, the NHL leadership is living in the wrong generation. This is an unbelievably bad no call that very well could cost the red wings organization a spot in the playoffs. Willing to bet that this rule is changed in the off season because of this, just like how our FO threw its weight around and influenced the lottery rules to be changed after 2020.

But it might not happen, whether a move is made or not. Seriously...the schedule is absolutely brutal and losing Copp doesn't help things.

If they miss out, it's because of the first half of the year, not whatever happens now. Lalonde should have been fired a month earlier.

For as much as we crap on Copp and Ras (myself included), we miss them up the middle. But to replace them, we're likely looking at a guy like Schenn or Pageau, who have years remaining. Then we're going into the summer likely in an even tighter bind to move one of Copp/Compher/"guy we traded for" to make space for other moves we might want to make.

I don't really blame yzerman at all for staying out of the trading frenzy here, but it puts a bigger emphasis on adding during the summer.

I agree. I'm ok standing pat for the next week. But this summer? He better be making some major moves.

and which, you know, influences the outcome of the game.

serious question on the reffing thing: were NHL refs used for the 4 nations tournament? Because I don't remember hearing nearly as many complaints about reffing there, and it's not like every team was super clean and didn't do anything that could be called.

Meanwhile, the refs throughout the league this season have been bad. Did the nhl just carefully choose what refs did the tournament so it would be well done? And if they did choose so carefully, doesn't that imply that they know they have a bunch of refs who are lousy at their job? But I never hear of the NHL doing anything to proactively make the bad refs better. And I certainly don't see it on the ice.

Detroit got robbed tonight.

One of the worst non-calls on the year.

Dominated 3/4 of the game and came up with nothing to show for.

Hopefully this loss doesn’t deflate the group’s moral because they should have Been on the winning side tonight.

Line #2 played amazing.

#53 and #8 had a phenomenal game.

#3’s Brain lapse cost the team a goal again.

#92 didn’t have a stand out game. Would have preferred a line juggle in order to try and make a spark for the top line.

Still can’t believe how a 8’ tall Edvinsson gets high sticked and it goes unnoticed.

My question: was Ed playing to get a call or to prevent a goal. If we're playing for calls, we might as well continue on and us fans can have righteous indignation and we can talk about about what could have been except for the refs.

Given how long Danforth's stick was pressed against his face, I really don't think he was playing to get a call. How do you defend when your visor is getting lifted up?

So say it's a best of 7 against the BJs. They are up 2-0. Is it over? No. Let's not panic - it's not like the Ottawa'd all over them for 2 games with no answer.

My excitement and enthusiasm for the rest of the season took a pretty hard hit tonight. When you’re robbed like that it makes it hard to be happy and looking forward to things. Definitely can see this impacting the morale of the team. Theres a huge chance this impacts the playoff seeding. Dont be surprised if we miss out because of one point.

The really simple thing they don't seem to grasp (at least I hope), is that all of this game management is affecting the outcome of games. When you just call the offenses when they happen, consistently, then it's the players that are affecting the outcome by committing them.
Maybe you call a game tighter because both teams are out of control, or you let the ticky-tacky stuff slide in the interest of letting an intense game flow. But, be consistent at least within a given game. And when there is an obvious infraction lacking any room for interpretation, it should be called every time, no matter what the score or how many penalties a team gets.
A stick gets high, and hits someone's face? That's high sticking. It's pretty simple.

we needed points from this home and home though

go game by game for the rest of the season and count how many points you think are realistic. to get in we'll need another 26-30 points and I barely see us getting 20.

it's full on time to panic
