he doesn’t “need to” do anything. It’s about his development though and what’s best for his future to become an impact player. Sure you could just say f*** it and have him play all 82 - many teams have done that in the past

I personally think that what the Ducks are doing is going to be very common place around the league 5 years from now - it just makes sense
Players used to smoke and eat hot dogs and pizza non stop. <Insert Kessel joke here>

The goal is to make him the best player possible in 2-3 years. Not to entertain us this year.

Him “not being tossed around” isn’t actually accurate. He’s not bulling through people, and he’s actually been knocked off balance/off the puck quite a few times. Being too light also increases the chances of injury.

Most if not all NHL players lose weight over the course of the season. He’s 18, meaning that he’s not done growing, meaning that there will be an even bigger deficit next year if they don’t work on it now. You can only put on so much muscle in an off season unless you’re using one of a number of banned chemicals.

I got a picture with him at fan fest - I’m 6’3”, and he was taller than me, has a larger frame, and weighs significantly less than where I was when I played Division 1 soccer.
These are all fair points. IMO, I don't think he needs to sit out a bunch of games to bulk up but I can see what they're trying to do. Hopefully it works as they intend it to.

I like how the NHL was like "This is gonna be a great time we are going to have all the teams play on the same day!!!!" and Columbus is like:

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not thrilled about not seeing him, but I also would like to see him look like Getzlaf (with hair) next year. I’ll let the experts develop him. I don’t want to break our new toy.

Man, some of the takes here are kinda silly. Go back to Sweeden because the team wants to manage his minutes as hes first getting going... HAS to be injured because, of course...

You know, in a game like this, where the #2 overall is supposed to go up against the guy a majority of fans and pundits thought should have been the #2 overall, its also quite possible that they arent just managing his minutes but they are also managing media coverage, expectations and unnecessary pressure for a kid to prove himself in what would have been his 3rd game.

Ill say the team probably knows Carlsson best. if they think that maybe he needs to build a bit more confidence or whatever the case might be before he starts facing these guys that everyone will be pitting against eachother, then so be it.

Ill say we still see him in 60-65 games this season.

Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson are all different guys. They all have played in different leagues, different roles, they have different personalities, had different summers, different body makeups, have different teammates, etc, etc. These guys arent cookie cutter, they dont all require the same treatment or the same expectations.

We shouldnt be looking at Bedard and saying "Carlsson should be doing X because Bedard is doing X."

So Leo is out

Hopes for game

Beat Columbus(obviously)
Fewer penalties than blue jackets
Zegras finally gets one
Power play goal would be nice
Young d remain solid(no turnovers to pasta in slot please)
Hold columbus under 35 shots
