I don't believe you.

I'm totally on board with the elimination of the chili chant.

There are very few players I would have a 7 million dollar cap hit for and Gaborik is nowhere NEAR the quality of player that they are. Datsyuk makes 6.7 and Gaborik couldn't hold Datsyuk's jock, Zetterberg makes 6, Lucic makes 6, Kane, Toews and Sharp make around 6....you get the point. From his history and performance the last few years, Gaborik is no better than about 4.5 million-5 million. And you know he won't entertain that offer from us.

So, basically, unless everybody's screaming at the top of their lungs constantly, it's "unenergetic".

If that particular three-goal celebration had nothing whatsoever to do with chili, would you still hate it? My suspicion is that you will answer "yes" but it will actually be "no". :)

EDIT: And for the record, I'm ambivalent about it myself. What I'm thinking about is how folks kept screaming for years about how we had to dump Machinehead because it was a reminder of a "losing culture", and yet nowadays so many pine for the days when Machinehead played, still associate it with Jackets hockey, and want to bring it back.

Also, **** any and all suggestions of R&Rp2. I would ****ing BOO if that crap played.

Yes I hate the Mexican Hat Dance song, period, I liked Machinehead and didn't want them to change it to Woman, another awful move by the in-game crew...Rock n roll is a great song to pump up the crowd in the third, not after a goal, just to get the wine and cheesers up off their ass for a faceoff.

I don't have any issue with the Chili Chant. I think whatever engages the crowd into a collective action in the game is a good thing.

My minor league team offers a free burrito ($7 retail value and 30 days to use ticket) when the Cyclones score 5 and win. A lot of people get into it once the team has scored 4. It's pretty funny at times watching people go crazy for their burritos.

Most anything that helps to attract the marginal fan for a team which has plenty of seats to sell is a good thing, imo.

You just proved my point exactly, "your minor league team". And if anyone is coming to the game solely in hopes of getting free chilli is a dope.

I'm well aware of your opinion on this topic. Isn't what I was talking about.

You said you'd be anti-Boll if he made 7 mil. I don't believe you.

well Woman wasn't an in-game crew thing...that was chosen by Rick Nash to come out to...and I believe I understand it to be the Captain (who knows with how it is now) that picks the teams skate out music...

The Cincinnati Reds give away free pizza if the Reds strike out 11 batters and its a huge hit. Are the Reds minor league? If one of the oldest pro teams in America can have one of these type of giveaways why can't the CBJ? I'm willing to bet most teams have these type of deals, but you don't notice because they don't have an awesome chant!

For the record I have been meh on the chant from the start, but now it's tradition and I would take notice if it went away.

I'm not some block head idiot that doesn't understand the finances side of hockey just because i like and feel a fighter is important. You misinterpret. It's not even Boll per-se, they could very well put anyone willing to fight in there. So I don't have some blinders on for Boll and would hemorrhage the salary cap for it. I'm comparing him to Tropp and Comeau and sometimes Letestu. That's all...

You're missing my point, I'm OK with the promotion itself, or even announcing the stupid chilli chant later on at the next stoppage, I just don't like the timing of it, interrupting the goal song, momentum and the excitement.

Baseball is a bore-fest to begin with, they need any reason to wake the crowd up and tell them it's time to go home. But do they sing a song and stop a momentum building, exciting cheer to announce the free pizza?? I think not.

Ok, I get your point, but don't really agree. Maybe if our goal song did not suck I would agree a little more.

I've never once felt like it interrupted anything. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. It's ours, and generally, whenever I've heard it over the years it's been a good thing and I was excited at the time. I barely pay attention to anything but the cannon, it's all just post goal noise to me because I'm usually yelling because I'm at the game....

I could not agree more.

Can't tell you how many times I've said to my buddy something to the effect: "Woohoo chili! Oh, and other news, your team now has a 3-2 lead."

You remember when they didn't go back into the goal song after like they do now? It was just dead air...like a vacuum sucked the cheering out of the building...it's only marginally better now.

It's an easy fix. Goal song then Chili Chant. My only issue with it is what's it's always been. We shouldn't be celebrating 3 goals. Maybe 4 or 5.

Sometimes it's the seemingly innocuous things that stick in the mind of the newer fan.

One of the things I still get a kick out of is the "Leo!" yell of the crowd when Welsh is introduced before singing. The Chili Chant is another. I don't find the Chant to be a crowd-noise killer either.

I forgot about the Reds 11 K free pizza deal. People get on their feet and go crazy when potential K #11 has two strikes on him.

It's not easy to draw a crowd into a regular and sustained reaction.

It's often hard for the hard core fan to realize that the vast majority of the people who come to a game don't give a rat's behind about whether Ryan Johansen is a good two way player or that the Wiz may have an occasional :laugh:defensive lapse. It's the total sum of the experience which they'll remember and silly little things like "Leo!" and the Chili Chant will often stick in the casual fan's mind longer than a great save by Bob.

The more chants and rituals, the better, so far as I'm concerned.

Thank God we held Anaheim to 2 goals, so we didn't have to hear their version of the chilli chant, perhaps for some Vegan Chick Nuggets.

What's insulting about Vegan Chick Nuggets? They have to be better than Bob Evan's Chili... :sarcasm:
