How many D-men can we call up from GR that are realistically close to ready? I would welcome the lagesson up he can’t be worse. Give me some wallinder, tuomisto, whoever. I can’t watch that bottom 4 play anymore
It’s so bad. Like it’s a really low IQ defense.

Nah, give them Boudreau. Let him ripen their offensive skills. We expect/want more offense from literally every young player on this team, including the young defensemen, why not give them a guy known for being open-minded about offensive freedom?

And for anyone who says we don’t have the horses for a game like that, we don’t have the defensive horses to play the defense-first way either, but we’ve still tried it for 10+ years.
Boudreau is actually a hot head that likes to drop the F bomb a lot. Just because he's more offensive minded doesn't mean he's soft. The problem is that he's 69, and will probably have a heart attack on the bench.

Might as well just promote Tanguay and tell him to figure out a way for these guys to actually score and let Cam fend for himself.

This is so depressing.

This road trip has me thinking about long term future, because this season is cooked.

Stevie, come this offseason, you will have 3 dman with 1 year left on their contracts. Holl, Gus and Chiarot. Find a way to get rid of all of them, I don't care how. And then find yourself a pro scout who can help you identify some quality defensemen.

This absolutely needs to be his #1 job. The D has to be fixed. He made massive errors in signing those guys, he needs to clean it up.

Anything is better than what we are seeing now. I’d be open to just about anything. Newsy needs to go back to worrying about minions and leave coaching hockey to a real coach

The sad thing is both are under contract for next year. Awful UFA d-men must just love when stevie calls, they not only get a job but they get good dollar and term
Unfortunately, that's not how it works.

What Stevie could do is just rotate guys (including Chia-Pet) down to GR and see if that wakes them up. Same with the forwards. Maybe Raz/Copp/Compher/Fish/Joey would like to see if they enjoy bus rides.

I honestly wouldn’t mind Tanguay as interim coach. I feel like he might coach closer to the way he played. And he’s got the PP figured out, so…

Maybe that’s a good argument for firing Lalonde mid-season - you can see if any of your investments look better in a different system or if they’re just crap overall.

Ideally yeah, but is it worth it? It will cost some assets to get rid of them.

Chiarot on the 3rd pair. With reduced ice-time he looked better last season. This year he is playing more, so would be fine on the 3rd pair i think.

Holl as an expensive 7th D, not ideal but rather do that than giving up a draft pick to get rid of him.

Gus can be buried in AHL.

apparently, those two defensemen were not that bad, overaged Perron was better than uninterested Tarasenko, who no one can score goals like that 4th line plug who didn't play any defense.

some guys here saw that coming

I'm gonna sum up this game with one play:

Compher loses the o-zone faceoff, and coasts back:

The D go man to man on the first 2 forwards to enter the zone as Compher's man blows right by him:

Compher goes back into coast mode even as his man gets the puck leading to an easy goal:

I don't believe in scratching a guy over one bad play, but Compher has one assist in the last 9 games while going -3. That is on par with Copp's cold streaks last season. Compher needs to be scratched for a game or two so he can pull his head out of his ass. Fester already made his adjustment by putting Burger-Joey-Compher as the 4th line, Motte can fill in just fine in that role.

Either Fester needs to send a message to his players or Stevie needs to give him the pink slip.

Compher is quickly entering discussions for least liked Wing. Does nothing.

ITS ABOUT 2026/27+ NOT 2024/25

why whining fans care about this season ive no idea when it was obvious before this season , and for years before that , that the only thing that mattered was building the prospect pool back up putting every effort into creating a long running contender . you do this by making every move for the sake of say 2026/27 and beyond . including not spending futures or long term cap space in effort to just eek into the playoffs today by over paying and terming say stamkos . there were some decent ufa yzerman could have signed to improve today but it would have both cost long term cap and worsened our draft spot for the sake of getting an iffy roster into the playoffs only to be run out . if fans thought before they whined theyd realize this but instead they want bragging rights so they can trash talk and be 'special' like the team theyre fans of ! when if thinking theyd be ecstatic with the job yzermans doing on the draft floor and how greatly all 'yzermans blue chips' are rocking the rinks from hoss cossa to d butchie to ammo to auggie to finn's to pelli to dannyson whose starting to get the beat . yzermans built a stack of blue chips thats going to set the redwings up for a dominant decade ! and as bad as the whing fans are the whining redwing media whom are turning this season into a soap opera with most calling for coaches head when hes standing with the worst defense in the nhl and til the competitive force kasper came along no proper 2C , not to mention the 2nd line wingers it takes to play a complete hockey game . its not lalondes fault he has a junk d , and its not yzermans fault he didnt build a better roster for today at the cost of tomorrow....

It stings because 1) we were robbed of a playoff spot last year. That team was entertaining never quit and deserved to get a little taste of what the playoffs is about.
2) The Detroit Red Wings need to be a flagship NHL franchise. To go 9 seasons without making the playoffs is an unacceptable for a franchise of our pedigree.

Yes we know what's on the way. But playing this pathetic and scared brand of hockey is so unbecoming of this franchise and nobody should be happy.

I thought we'd suck this season so this doesnt surprise me but it is just a drag. I feel we're wasting Larkin's career.

So if it's all about 26-27 (of course two years ago it was all about 24-25 but whatever), then why sign Larkin when he will be 30 then? Why didn't he trade him for a big haul that would be more aligned with that timeline? I know some think Yzerman has this masterplan to setup for a "decade of dominance" , but the reality is he tried to speed up the rebuild with all the players he signed and most of them have not panned out. Copp,Chiraot, Compher etc were not just mere placeholders, they were supposed to make an impact. You don't sign a 36 year old Kane just for fun. Yzerman was trying to get the team into the playoffs the past two years and the plan is not working.
