I was at the game tonight.....I haven't read any else's post. Here was my take on the game.
1.) Jenner and Umberger played like everyone should every shift. Anyone who continues with trade RJ talk does not see what I see when I watch him play. Personally, I think he leads by example as much as anyone right now. I don't care how much anyone else wants to argue with me on that, it's just my take.
2) I texted my brother after the second period and said we better get the next goal, unfortunately I was right.
3) Bob played well enough to win. He just missed the second E. Stahl goal, had it almost in his glove only to go over top of in and in the net.
4) Johansen is going to be a star, great pass on RJ's goal tonight, but is still learning as is to be expected. I have never played hockey, but I would have to think a golden rule is to know where the puck is at all the time. He could have helped Bob out on the first goal but last track of the puck, He got turned around and was looking the opposite direction from the play.
5) Horton was an all league best +21 in the playoffs alone last year, but his play confuses me. The penalty he took I could have called from the top row, and it could have easily been a double minor for slashing and interference. (In the offensive zone to boot) On offense he had 3 or 4 chances to put the puck on net, maybe score, maybe get a deflection, maybe get a rebound; yet every time he danced around until the defense stole the puck.
6) Cam has no confidence right now. He got wide open with just the goalie to beat with about 3 minutes left from point blank range to tie the game, had a lot of empty net to hit, and put it right in the center chest of Khudobin. He needs a goal soon and hopefully then he can get his mojo back, because he lost it right now. We need Cam and Dubinsky to get going if we expect to make any noise in the playoffs, yes assuming we make the playoffs.
7) I was a Savard critic, now that he's out, I have the "you never knew what you had until it's gone feeling" I now believe I was dead wrong on him, which is a good thing, I just hope he gets back soon.
As deflating as tonight was, I will damn sure be back at the PNC Arena March 29th for the BlueJackets last visit to Raleigh this year.
Hopefully tomorrow night the results are different.
