Why does everyone assume that limping into the playoffs last year means it will work again this year? The fact that this team is showing major signs of apathy is a huge problem.

And it's not like we have a rich history of going deep in the playoffs. Nothing erases the fact that we were bounced in the 1st round twice before last year.

Anyone that expected the young core to go past the first round in those years.....Was dreaming.

No Kopitar against the Sharks and still took them to three OT's.

The Kings played as well as you could ask.

Yeah, but limping into the playoffs has been a trend for 4 straight years now. In those previous three years, we could've finished with a seed no lower than 4th. Didn't Quick get stuck at 39 wins during the last two weeks of the 2009-10 season?

That that I wouldn't mind home ice (particularly vs. the Sharks), but honestly... who cares all that much? I'd rather the Kings draw the Canucks or Blues in round 1. Kings have a between-the-ears problem with the Sharks.

The last two games mean nothing and the Kings know it.

All they have to do is win against San Jose to get home ice advantage in the first round (provided, of course, St. Louis doesn't grab the 4th spot first).

 knocking det out of the playoffs for the first time in 21 years means nothing?? the teams that has owned the Kings forever?!?

The Kings gifted at least 4 pts to det this year. So that's it, they get hot at the right time and win the Cup, but during the regular season they can't show any improvement over teams that have dominated them for years?

sorry, but actually winning important games means something to me.

And when is Kopitar going to actually score a goal in a meaningful game?

Don't care if the Wings get in. They're not the team they were. Dubinsky tried to manhandle Doughty the other day and injure him. Hit him while he was down. **** the BJs. Hope they miss the playoffs after that. That's more meaningful on my side.

I've heard it said here before: the kings only win when they have to.

It's never going to be simple. This team clearly has a playoff mode it's saving and I'm still confident we can pull this thing together for our first opponent.

After tonight Blues have in their hands number 4 seed. They play two home games till the end, Calgary and Chicago, if they won both, they are number 4. If they lost one of this two games (doesent matter how), Kings with win against Sharks grab 4th place.

If Blues win tonight against Calgary at home (which is expected), then first round match between Kings and Sharks is not possible anymore. Winner of Saturdays match will play Blues and loser Vancouver.

I'm sure the last team the Blues would like to face in the first round would be the Kings! :D

Sorry, that part is not completly true. Kings and Sharks can still play in that scenario, if Blues lose against Chicago in regulation and Sharks beat kings in OT or SO.

But it is impossible for King to have home ice advantage against Sharks if Blues beat Calgary tonight.

Hopefully they find their motivation against the Sharks at home. At this point, though, they're just going through the motions.

Honestly, the only team that has had any kind of consistency this season has been the Blackhawks. That's it. It's not the end of the world.

But honestly, these are the lines I probably roll with against SJ:

Penner-Kopitar-Williams
Clifford-Richards-Carter
King-Stoll-Lewis
Richardson-Fraser-Toffoli

Our LW depth is absolute garbage.

Not sure why anyone wouldn't want to put Toffoli on 1st or 2nd line LW. Kid can friggin' score. Problem solved.

have we ever beat the redwings when datsyuk scores im really sure we haven't
Did you hear this somewhere ? :) I've looked it up from 2006 until now and indeed we have not. When the Kings win, Datsyuk doesnt seem to score.

Also has this core ever laid a stinker in the playoff's ? Nope, they have played as well as expected every single year.

Sans maybe that 5 goal giveaway to the Sharks(without Kopitar).
That still hurts. All the talk about facing the Sharks in these playoffs, I'm thinking back of that game.

I can't understand why really nobody admits that the Kings were massivily outplayed by Detroit. People rather believe that the Kings didnt care or whatever but its far from the truth. Yes they might have been tired/fatigued but the Wings were so much better. 80% of the team really tried but Detroit was just great. Tape to tape passing, puck possession and their skating was insane. They were flying out there. That Nyguist (sp?) guy played incredible, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Gretzky Eaves etc etc. Like Pierre McGuire said, even Ericsson made a pass that you had never seen from him. The Kings blocked a lot and I dont want to know how often a lost stick or leg/arm whatever from a Kings player prevented another Detroit scoring chance.

This was the worst game of the season in the sense of being outplayed. I dont care about those losses vs. Dallas, that was way different. I understand it always feels like that in your last loss but it really was. The Kings had no business in this game and I'm surprised the Wings are fighting for a playoff spot. If they play like that, they will go straight to the Western Conference Finals.
