Did you hear this somewhere ? :) I've looked it up from 2006 until now and indeed we have not. When the Kings win, Datsyuk doesnt seem to score.

That still hurts. All the talk about facing the Sharks in these playoffs, I'm thinking back of that game.

I can't understand why really nobody admits that the Kings were massivily outplayed by Detroit. People rather believe that the Kings didnt care or whatever but its far from the truth. Yes they might have been tired/fatigued but the Wings were so much better. 80% of the team really tried but Detroit was just great. Tape to tape passing, puck possession and their skating was insane. They were flying out there. That Nyguist (sp?) guy played incredible, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Gretzky Eaves etc etc. Like Pierre McGuire said, even Ericsson made a pass that you had never seen from him. The Kings blocked a lot and I dont want to know how often a lost stick or leg/arm whatever from a Kings player prevented another Detroit scoring chance.

This was the worst game of the season in the sense of being outplayed. I dont care about those losses vs. Dallas, that was way different. I understand it always feels like that in your last loss but it really was. The Kings had no business in this game and I'm surprised the Wings are fighting for a playoff spot. If they play like that, they will go straight to the Western Conference Finals.

The Wings were playing a desperate game and the Kings played a ho-hum ALL THE LINES WERE DIFFERENT, we're already in the playoff type game. They pretty much phoned it in after playing 3 in 4 nights. All 3 teams we played gave us their best in order to stay alive and make the playoffs. The Kings only matched that intensity in one of those games.

As for being outplayed, game 1 against the Hawks, the 1st game against the ducks and possibly one against the Canucks.

Sutter on Penner:

On Dustin Penner being a healthy scratch:
“Yeah. He was tired last night, so I was going to assume he’d be tired tonight.â€

and whether he returns to the 2nd line perhaps:

"Obviously Dustin Penner’s had a tough time. Last year it looked like he was taking a step up at this time of the year, so we felt good about putting him on that line. Right now we’ve got to make some decisions. It’s a different team. We’ll see what happens the next few days.â

It really sucks that he's the best option on LW and is a healthy scratch but why on earth is he tired? You'd think he'd do anything to earn a new contract.

Of course Detroit played hard. They were on the fence of making the playoffs and we could never match that. "Desperate" sounds so negative again. Doesnt mean the difference had to be that big. Kings can have home ice again after 100 hundreds years. That great passing game from Detroit had nothing to do with the Kings being in playoff mode. Give credit where credit is due. Nobody does it. Its all excuses and more excuses.

Agreed, 1st game vs Chicago was bad. We deserved the losses vs Anaheim and Vancouver but it was not as bas as last night and vs Chicago.

When he showed up in LA his conditioning was terrible... He stayed in LA all summer and worked to improve it a lot but it's still an issue. His conditioning and cardio just is not up to snuff to play at a high level consistently in the Kings system. Huge emphasis on back-checking and cycling the puck along the boards. Two things that take a lot out of players, especially the forwards.

This is the reason I've never really thought of him as a threat on the 2nd line, and why he's never really 'fit in' with the Kings. The style is something he hasn't played since he first broke into the league. He was never asked to do boardwork in Edmonton, no checking, no grimy play. It's not something that he can adjust to, apparently.

If you look at the Kings roster, all the other top forwards can play this type of game effectively. In fact, I think out of the entire roster, Penner is the only forward that can't. Maybe Toffoli, but he's going through an adjustment period and will take a while to get used to the NHL.

The main reason Penner got another year was his performance last year in the playoffs, and I remember Sutter and Penner had a heart to heart after the playoffs to see if it was worth taking a chance on Penner for another year.

His contract renegotiation period begins with game 1 of the playoffs this year (assuming he's allowed to play). Unfortunately for Penner his ship may have already sailed in Sutter's mind, but my guess is he will be playing in game 1.

hopefully they find their motivation against the sharks at home. At this point, though, they're just going through the motions.

Honestly, the only team that has had any kind of consistency this season has been the blackhawks. That's it. It's not the end of the world.

But honestly, these are the lines i probably roll with against sj:

Penner-kopitar-williams
clifford-richards-carter
king-stoll-lewis
richardson-fraser-toffoli

our lw depth is absolute garbage.

why sit nolan he has looked the best with puck management lately

I don't think it matters how Penner performs in the playoffs this year. As you stated, the ship has already sailed. The Kings can't endure another season like this from Penner. It's time they brought in a winger who can show up to play most nights and will be regularly paired with Richards and Carter. Hopefully Lombardi will able to find one this off-season via trade or free agency. Penner can go elsewhere to drive coaches and fans mad with his inconsistent play.

I think the plan is for Toffoli to slot in next season. Sutter made mention in an interview that Toffoli is going to need to learn how to play left wing. That's a lot to ask of a young guy, but he looks the part when he's out there. Pearson is next in line at left wing as well.

Won't happen in this playoffs, but I still think Nolan has higher upside than King and maybe they flip lines in the future. Nolan handles the puck much better than King. Fights hard along the boards and has better vision as well.

Well said.

I assumed it was Sutter's sarcastic way of saying Penner didn't play well.

Cool pictures, despite the outcome:

Wow, just saw this:

The #LAKings have been outscored 23-15 in 5-on-5 play in April.

That is a huge problem leading into the playoffs.

With Brownie out, I don't expect those numbers to improve against the sharx. Our roster of LWs are kind a weak, no?

TT
Penner
King
Richie
Clifford

Toffoli is not a left wing, hence Sutter saying he needed to learn how to play it over the summer.

“When we brought him up, we weren’t trying to force him into anything, and it’s what we said,” Darryl Sutter said. “Because of the schedule, we need lots of guys and one thing I know going forward with him, just because the way our positions stack up, he’s going to have to be a more versatile player in terms of position-wise, because his primary position is right wing, and that’s going to be a tough place for him to play when you have Willie and Jeff ahead of him at right wing, and Lewie’s got a good role on our team. He’s going to have a hard time not being any more than what we are right now on a good team, and I’ve talked to him about it. He hasn’t played much left wing, but he’s played a lot of center. Usually good players in Canada on kids teams play center, right? So we’re going to have to do some work with him on that this summer and go from there.”

Yeah, I know. I meant for our game against the Sharx with Brownie out. I should have been clearer.
I doubt Sutter is going to have him play left wing in that game. He moved Richards from center to left wing last game instead of putting Toffoli over there. Seems like it would have been much easier to just slot Toffoli in Brown's spot, but Sutter probably didn't feel comfortable doing that.

Oh, ok. I obviously didn't see the last game.

But Sutter's quote doesn't surprise me. I just hope TT can be our 2LW/1LW for next season. That would solve our roster/cap issue for next year. If Vey's smart, he may want to hone his LW skills in the offseason as well.

I'm really hoping Toffoli can transition to left wing, too, because the Kings aren't going to have much cap space to add anyone. Getting someone to fill that role on an ELC contract will be huge.
