So did Toffoli have a leg amputated? I thought he was supposed to be back by now.

It's been the quietest injury I can remember. Came out of nowhere, he was said to be day to day, it's already been a month, and it might be another couple weeks.

I guess Kopitar has overshadowed Toffoli, but oh yeah, he only had 8 goals in 32 games. That would be 20 in a full season. He's already missed 13 games. Another couple weeks, that might go up to 20 games. He might score 15 goals this year. Here we were expecting 30 again.

What a year.

There is nothing about this season's performance that I find encouraging.

Aside from a couple of individuals performing exceptionally (Carter/Pearson) or above their expectations (Budaj), the only other thing to look forward to on the ice is seeing the progression of guys like Forbort and Dowd.

Besides what I listed, can anyone really pinpoint anything about this team that you find encouraging? I sure don't.

That despite some of the worst injuries in the league they're still a top possession and defensive team.

That they often play their best hockey against the best teams.

That despite all of the garbage we've endured and the performances of guys who we need more points out of, we're at a wild card spot more than halfway through the season.

I don't have high expectations, but I'm having fun watch this team battle every night.

I guess I don't find it fun watching this team struggle to put pucks in the net, let alone generate high quality scoring chances.

Those possession and shots for/against stats are all meaningless when they don't factor in to what the ultimate goal of this game is. The areas from where the shots are coming from and their perimeter play isn't very entertaining or fun to watch. More importantly, it isn't leading to more wins. This team is on the verge of flatlining.

We're not scoring but we're still a good defensive team, and that's with Budaj playing all season. Who would have expected that? I mean the last two games were one goal, low scoring games. Still lots of season left.

I know its fashionable to bang on about how Kopitar is struggling this year to put up points, but he is in some pretty good company around the nhl

Kopitar - 4G 20A 24 points 39 games

Getzlaf - 6G 28A 34 points 40 games

Toews - 7G 15A 22 points 38 games

Barkov - 9G 18A 27 points 36 games

Johansen- 7G 23A 30 points 44 games

Thornton- 3G 26 A 29 points 45 games

Sure there are also plenty of guys putting up big numbers, but give the guy a break, he plays in a lot stricter system than a lot of these other guys too.

This is a team that has more problems than any Kings team I've watched since 2007.

Funny you should say that. The W/L% in regulation since the 06-07 season:

06-07...21-41, .339
07-08...25-43, .368
08-09...26-37, .413
09-10...32-27, .542
10-11...25-30, .538
11-12...31-27, .534
12-13...24-16, .600
13-14...34-28, .548
14-15...37-27, .578
15-16...34-28, .548
16-17...12-19, .387

The problem in 14-15 was that they were 1-7 in 4v4 OT, and couldn't buy a goal in the SO. Plus blew multiple leads to Calgary. Then couldn't beat the Oilers to save their season.

Without Quick, maybe they're somehow playing more conservative, giving up that much more offense to make sure Budaj has plenty of help, but then what's Carter's excuse? Maybe he's just that damn good. Either way, it's been a struggle for them this year. One thing after another. They get some credit for not giving up and continuing to collectively try to make something out of nothing, but they don't inspire much confidence. The Canucks are 12-19 in regulation too.

I think we will see progression in Gravel also.

I will pardon your pun.

Oh, wait, and another thing...

There was a time when Kopitar was leading this team in shots on net.

09-10, 1st
10-11, 1st
11-12, 2nd
12-13, 5th
13-14, 3rd
14-15, 9th
15-16, 6th
16-17, 9th

Since those earlier years, they've added Carter, and Gaborik, and Toffoli, so the team has changed. Going by the shots on net per game, if Kopitar had played every game this year, he'd be 6th right now. Lombardi had no choice but to pay him, you have to do it, as no franchise trying to compete lets their #1 guy walk out the door, but there are only so many bad contracts a team can have before they start adding up.

And Doughty is a dud. Everything Burns shot at the net made it through or was on target so a teammate could do something with it. Doughty missed on every shot he took tonight [or had it blocked], including a wide open shot on the pp that Burns would've blown through the back of the net!

He's all slap shot or nothing. Like **** Drew, there are other ways to shoot the puck. You don't always have to try and burn it through the back of the net.

0 shots last night by Kopitar, sorry I would at least like to see 2 or 3 shots in a game from a guy you paying 14 million to this year.

People can talk all they want about nobody playing with Kopitar on his line, that still does not prevent him from driving to the net with that big frame of his. There were several opportunities last night for him to get shots. Kopitar has turned into a 1 dimensional player on the offensive side, teams more and more are playing him for the pass, because guy will not shoot.

Kings are offensively challenged, Kopitar needs to put 20+ goals in the net for them to have any chance.

And we need to get Doughty a smaller net to shoot at in practice, right now he would lose one of those in between period challenges where 2 people have 30 seconds to put as many pucks in the net as possible. Give me Jennifer from Torrance over Drew Doughty in a head to head competition.

Okay rant over.

His hand is obviously ****ed. He can't even handle simple passes. Guess we just need to accept this is the Kopitar we get for the rest of the year.

So if it is that bad I assume an operation at the end of the year, and out the beginning of next year as well?

The plan is to screw up 2 seasons?

Look what he did in the playoffs in 2012 and 2014. Wrist shots, lugging the puck up like Niedermayer, passing the puck, between the legs. Where's that guy? Now his too cute plays don't work, and he's trying to be MacInnis.

The last 15 games head to head:
Burns, 9G, 9A, 18pts
Doughty, 2G, 4A, 6pts

Burns is on a crazy run in his career right now. Doughty has had his day in the sun too, but he's just putting him to shame lately. As are the Sharks to the Kings in general. The Kings will always have the 0-3 comeback, and we can make fun of the Sharks that these games are their Stanley Cup, but it hasn't been pretty since Game 7.

Hard to say for sure but it feels that way.

If they tank on the road trip, and if surgery is needed I hope he ops for it. We try to pick up some late draft picks trading Budaj(who's value cannot be any higher than now) Seto, and whatever else they can sell off.

That said they probably go on this road trip like they have done in years past in Jan/Feb and get points in all but 1.

The other problem is bottom half of the west sucks so bad, its very hard to fall out of the race, so there is that.

So if it is that bad I assume an operation at the end of the year, and out the beginning of next year as well?

My guess is that it won't take an operation at the end of the season. You can never even tell with Kopitar anyway. We all thought he had to be hurt in the 2013 playoffs, but he wasn't. At least not anything that required surgery. He just looked hurt. Clearly there's been an issue with his wrist this year, but he wasn't lighting the world on fire before the injury either. He had a whole 2 goals in 15 games before that game in Ottawa.

Was he hurt in 14-15 when he wasn't getting the puck on net and had a full season career low of 16 goals? Not that I remember.

And where has that gotten the team? Lol sorry he criticized your idol but it's true. Sutter's obsession with these talentless players is going to keep us out of the playoffs this year.

Honestly what do Clifford, Nolan, and King bring to the team anymore? The only thing I can think of are bad offensive zone penalties

That's the point that cannot be argued. We all see the coach rewarding hard work and there are no results from that. So based on Sutter's logic shouldn't those players be benched as well?

They always have great defensive numbers, but at end of the day that doesn't mean much when they are not winning. I think it says a lot when your team is trailing after the second period and not giving their best effort in the third. I stopped watching after the second cos I knew the result.

It's Carter or bust without TT in the lineup.
