The Predators are now in the 8th place and have overtaken the Kings for the final wild card spot and have played the same amount of games.

Another fun fact, the Leafs have more points than the Kings in two less games played. Kings and Canucks both have 48 points with the Kings having played one less game.

The Islanders, whom the Kings face on Saturday, just shutout the Stars today. Let's see how these guys respond. If they play like they did against Buffalo...

This team cannot afford a crap road trip, or they will find themselves bottom five in points in the league

And Quick being out is not the reason the team is floundering. Budaj has kept them in most games They have 0 goal differential, that is the part of the reason.

I don't disagree in general with your overall post, but if Quick was healthy, that means Zaktoff would have never got starts. Kings could easily have 5 more points or so from that alone.

Thought this season would have been way worse then this by now. I'm surprised with how well it's going all things considered.

And yes, this thing can go into a complete nosedive at any point. That's what makes it so exciting! Skating on the edge of complete disaster!

It reminds me too much of riding the high of the '93 Cup Final run, then suffering the lows of missing the playoffs for the next four consecutive seasons with a team led by Wayne Gretzky.

Missing the playoffs with a loss in the last game of the season in 94-95 really sucked, especially when they opted to sit Kelly Hrudey (who was playing at his best) in favor of Fat Grant Fuhr.

Oh to be young and naive again...

Hate harping on their regulation record, because it doesn't matter in the standings, but they have the 4th worst record during 60 minutes in the league, and Arizona and Colorado are so bad they should barely even count. They're also still ahead of Calgary in overall points%, with 3 fewer games played. Unless they keep getting to OT though, they haven't shown an ability to win more than lose otherwise, which will catch up to them.

All of these things add up to where the Kings are, and that's on the fence. Could go either way. There's some negatives, some positives, and it depends on where you want to look. It's like watching Kopitar this year. Some games are throwaway's, every now and then things look good, but mostly they're just sort of there.

The problem with the Kings is the talent. They have the majority of the roster where if you were to place them on the top line and increase their minutes that players offensive production would remain the same. You have to have some players in the bottom 6 capable of catching lightning in a bottle and getting hot if somebody went down or on a cold streak. You see what happens when Coach's Favorite Trevor Lewis plays on the top line-nothing. He is who we thought he was. You could purge the entire bottom 6 and replace them with Ontario Reign and the only thing that would change is the Corsi Ratings.

Your thinking is wrong. Budaj would be in the minors, and Zat would have still started a handful of games.

Haha,

Trevor Lewis is on pace for a career year production wise. The bottom six is actually on a decent pace with Dowd/Brown points.

The problem is, Kopitar goals are down, and Gabo is way off, Toffoli injured.

Until the top six gets healthy, and producing normal numbers, it's tough sledding.

If the bottom six didn't have the numbers it does have right now, the Kings would be staring at a Top three pick right now.

Lewis' ice time is down from last year 14:34-14:11. So you play him less and he produces more so I play him less and less every game!

From the latest LAKingsInsider article:

Of their next 15 games, 11 are against the Eastern Conference, and four are against Western Conference bottom-feeders Arizona and Colorado. In other words, they’re not in complete control of their immediate destiny.

Is anyone else a little relieved about this? With the way things are going right now, the Kings would find a way to muck up an important game against Calgary, Nashville, or Edmonton.

Just get points, as much as possible.

The rest of the division, the Kings can't control. For all anyone knows, a team like Calgary could have another 2015, and not lose(much) from here on out.

Gold! Lewis is definitely not a problem this season though.

The guy on my list this season is Dwight King. I've been saying for over two weeks now that you could tell me Dwight King died a month ago and I'd believe it. Crazy he's played every game yet you can't remember him doing anything, like, at all.

No goals since 12/1 and no points since 12/15.

Since an assist on 12/15, he has zero points in 16 games while averaging between 14-15 minutes a night.

He has zero penalty minutes since the game on 11/19! I don't go caps but ITS LIKE HE ISN'T EVEN OUT THERE BUT HE IS!

Like...he gets in some big hits at least, right? No? Then he draws penalties? No? So you're saying he is a 235 pound guy that just skates up and down the ice and absolutely nothing will happen, good or bad, while he is on the ice? Awesome! Can I renew my season seats now to ensure I catch more of this excitement?

Did you watch the cloutier years ?

He's been PKing like a monster. Like, literally best metrics in the league. So there's that. The 'problem' is roster redundancies LIKE him with respect to low production and the death of 3 of the top 6.
