What's your excuse?
Words cannot describe how much better this Jets team is on defense, probably compared to every single NHL team that has ever played in Winnipeg.

Was the 1990 edition a great defensive team? Probably the only one that would compare.

Watching this team you just expect them to not give up goals/chances - which makes "trap" games like this less stressful in the leadup.

Now when the Jets are leading 3-2 with five minutes left, that's another story.

Where do you get your stats from?
I just checked 5v5 goal stats ... CBJ is 29th and Vancouver is 16th or are you counting just the goals scored not the goals against which is important because the team with the most goals at the end of the game wins.
I looked on hockey ref, sorted by GF at 5v5. Simple counting stat. CBJ has scored 93. Winnipeg is fourth, having scored 90. And like I said, Columbus has horrible special teams. They’ve scored just 125 total goals, so they tells you almost nothing coming at situations other than 5v5 which is also borne out by their dreadful power play ranking.

It’s easy to punch holes in anything someone says. I didn’t go GPG, as obviously Columbus has played the most games in the league. I didn’t go net goals, which you seem to be demanding. Sorry for not qualifying every sentence in my post with several more paragraphs, I guess. I was just using a simple counting stat to show that scoring goals at 5v5 isn’t the Jackets’ issue and that they’re even pretty good at it—not just for a Bad Team but even compared to Good Teams. Keeping the goal out of their own net is the problem. It’s a meme, but they genuinely are better than their record shows.

Good luck, Jets bros. My team obviously isn’t going anywhere this season, and I always root for other small market teams.

I edited to add a screenshot from hockey ref (mobile site), including the note that it includes shootout goals which must be what put Colorado over Winnipeg in that case. I only brought up aGF because I didn’t feel that it was necessary to add that “yes bad team is Bad and also gives up more goals than it scores” when discussing that the team was pretty good at scoring goals 5v5. We have very little joy in Columbus lately. Let me have one little bright spot.

Jackets fan popping in to scout the competition, since we don't see much of you guys and I'm not as familiar with the Jets as I am, say, the Kings (since we're such frequent trade partners).

Columbus is one of the top 5v5 scoring teams in the league (second only to Vancouver in number of goals scored, in fact). They've just got abysmal special teams (the PK was also very good til Jenner broke his jaw, and now it is also awful) and a tendency like most very young teams to turtle and collapse in third periods. They're also in the top half of the league in GF in all situations. I wouldn't worry too much that the Jets won't win this one, especially if Columbus is up at any point in the third period, but I agree the three goals or less streak is likely in jeopardy. There's also been a panic thread on the main boards after nearly every Jackets victory by an opposing team's fan (they've beaten almost every contender they've played so far this year: NYR, Boston, Tampa, Toronto, and the Devils), so if the Jackets win this one, I look forward to the Jets panic thread. Combine that with some motivation from Vincent to show well in his former home? This one might give the Jets fits.

Good luck to the poster that bet on the Lowry Geordie Howe hatrick!

I’ll be rooting for you. I think the biggest challenge will be getting him to fight. That last tilt banged up his hand quite a bit. lol.
