Post-Game Talk: Game 4

It's Game 5 of the ECF. Win two of the next three or the season's over. We need to improve the top 4, but that's not happening now. It's an issue that 100% needs to be addressed this summer, but at this point in the here and now, throw shit against the wall to try to win two of the next three games. Jones isn't elite by any stretch of the imagination, but we've seen what the current six can do.

Unless Laviolette has something up his sleeve, I feel like we're just going to get a repeat with this same group in Game 5. And we'll be praying Igor turns into God and stops every puck. In practical terms, is Jones magically fixing all our problems? No, but what other option do we have right now?

Ultimately, I'd be floored if Laviolette puts him in there in Game 5 of the ECF, so most likely a meaningless discussion in the end. What other things can we try that are actually plausible? New pairings? New breakout tactics/strategy that dramatically simplifies things for our backend? Load Igor up on massive amounts of Adderall enroute to a 43 save shutout in Game 5?
The only things I think could change are

1) The matchups. Maurice was hitting Trouba with Barkov like he was spraying a cockroach with Raid.

2) Even this D corps can play a little better than they did in those two games.

3) Maybe Mika doesn't exacerbate everything wrong with this team with like 19 turnovers. Would be nice.

Some of you mental midgets need to get a grip. Acting like this series is lopsided when it’s been ~3 periods of lopsided.

Go hug your loved ones or take a Xanax or something.
There's no way you can say with a straight face that only 3 periods of this series have been lopsided. Come on dude. I get that we may be being a bit dramatic and negative, but thats not a fair statement at all. Igor is the only reason we're in this.

That's why I'm a bit more let down than usual.

Game 3 sucked and game 4 arguably sucked more.

Granted, they won game 3, and I understand why coaches come down less hard when the team wins.

Hopefully, that's what happens and we get the signature Lavi response in game 5.
We will definitely get a response and we still have Igor. It's do or die. 3 of the 6 periods in Florida were absolute ass and they managed a split with both games going into OT. The officiating was criminal also. How Florida got a 10-5 PP advantage I will never know. It can't get any worse being at home.

It's still wild to me that they traded Zubov.

They had two top-5 defensemen in the world and they were just like "this stinks."
It's like they're still compensating for getting pushed around by Philly in the 70s.

Zubov led the team in scoring in the cup year (regular season). The power play with him and Leetch was insane. He was a revelation when he came up ( 1992 I think). The team suddenly became more competent at hockey. It was especially noticeable that year because Leetch was injured. And they got rid of him for Ulf Samuelson. That's their idea of a defenseman.

A few years back people like Carp were still spreading the narrative that Zubov hurt as much as he helped. RangersWorld is just stupid sometimes.

Yes, he should have the loser mindset like you and just give up. They can make adjustments how they defend, roster moves, they also have last change at home, etc. Little things go a long way. There have been countless times this year that they have played poorly and looked much better the next game. He has done a pretty good job with that and needs to do it again. Since you are convinced it's over then don't watch and you enjoy the summer now. I will be watching on Thursday night.

But they didn't just play poorly. They got physically manhandled. Lavi just doesn't have the horses.

The Philly thing in the 70's really rotted our culture. It's why so many of the fans are still obsessed with it.

once the team starts to break out of the zone, we look better. for most of the season and playoffs, we struggled early then started to get our legs. the last two games we got worse as the game went on. that is more of a concern than anything to me.

last night wasn’t just one or two players, laf was just about the only forward able to do anything for significant stretches.

I don’t think any of this is fixable, but they can apply duct tape to deal with the problem far more effectively.

again, it’s not that we lost, it’s how we lost. if it’s game 1 and we hit 3 posts, had good looks, couldn’t cash in, ok, you take your lumps and you hope for better puck luck. it was a massacre last night plain, and simple. that’s why so many of us are concerned.

If it wasnt for Kreider having the game of his life and Igor keeping us in, Im not sure we win a game. I refuse to blame the officiating for our poor play.

Most of the play in the last 2 games was Fla suffocating us in our o zone and occasionally we break out and some of those breakouts result in goals because Fla has committed to being in our zone and our breakouts catch them off guard.

Thats why they have so many more shot attempts but our shot attempts are higher quality chances since their defense is off guard also their goalie not as good as ours.

So our key to success is tighter defense, more turnovers, better breakout scoring opportunities.

Hopefully not commiting penalties, not having biased refs and being more physical (but not blatant penalties). We want to be aggressive but not get penalties.

Do all this we win.

And it wasn't a massacre because they outskilled us, something that can get schemed. They just basically got physically manhandled and there's not much you can do about the physical makeup of the team.

Florida scores 2 PP goals a game...I wonder what happens when we stop taking penalties?

We can't stop taking penalties when the refs are determined to put their thumbs on the scales, see the joke penalty on Lindy on a play that happens dozens of times a game. We can only pray NHL game management goes in our favor that particular game, if not nothing you can do about it. Yes, the league is rotten.

Hate blaming officating and always feel silly doing so, but this is spot on. I'm still livid about those missed calls to end the third. f***ing joke.
