Game #4 : Kings vs. Senators - 10/9/13 - Overtime Win!

Who had fun watching the game tonight?

Who saw us do a few things they liked but understand we still need some work?

Who enjoyed themselves enough tonight to where they were happy and entertained for a few hours?

Me!

We need to keep working to build some cohesiveness but we made allot of good solid little steps forward tonight and if we can keep it up we will be fine within the next 6 or 7 games.

GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!!

Dude I love ya, you're a kings fan <high five>, I got your back, BUT...

"a lot" not "allot."

:)

Haven't been able to catch any Kings games this year how's Matt Frattin looking?

Good.

He is young and still learning our system while finding his place with the team but I think he has been really good so far. He has shown glimpses of the type of play that made him so desirable to us. It is going to take a little bit to work his way into the team but that is to be expected. We won the cup and then went to the conference finals with most of this group so they are pretty tight.

All that said I like his game and you can see that once he gets it down he should be a good one.

Like a bag of doorknobs. Honestly he looked better tonight on the 3rd line but did virtually nothing on he second line in the previous 3 games.

Thanks. I thought he would be a good fit for Richards and Carter, well shows how much I know. I'd also like to thank Kopitar and Carter for helping me in my pool tonight.

Also not a big fan of Regehr. I'll take Scuderi, hands down, at 3.5 or whatever he's getting, over Regehr. Difference is night and day. I miss Scuds.

Well in fairness he only got a few games with those guys, who basically share a brain and a dick, so it's not necessarily the easiest place to fit in. I'm sure things will shake out for him eventually.

There is maybe 5 dmen in the league i would take Regehr over.

There was a painful shift about half way through the 2nd where the top line and Doughty/Regehr spent about 30 seconds in their zone. Doughty finally gets the puck, passes it to Regehr infront of the net who is wide open with noone really close to him. Regehr fumbles it then throws a weak pass to Williams 10 feet away from him, who already had a senator in his face before Regehr passed him the puck. Naturally the Kings lose possession and spend another 30 seconds in the zone chasing shadows

There is not a single redeeming factor about this guy. He isn't smart, he can't pass, can't shoot, makes bad decisions, can't defend, can't pk, can't skate. He can hit well, but its suicide when he does because it takes him 20 seconds to get back into position

I like both Frattin and the Kings so I hope you're right.

I love how people still find ways to criticize Kopitar for not scoring goals when he had 2 assists...

And then dismiss those 2 assists as secondary assists.

Anyway, Martinez played a great game. Voynov looks like he's suffering from post-newcontract-hangover.

First line looks like it's starting to sync again, and individually all three are playing better. Second line looks good. Bottom 6 still hardly an offensive threat. Aside from Lewis' breakaway this season, has the bottom 6 had a legitimate scoring chance at all?

The defense.... meh. Better than against the game against the Rangers, but still woefully mediocre.

We've played under our abilities for all 4 games this year. My thinking is that this is the first year where they are under a formal system. The last two years they were basically in Terry Murray's scheme and philosophy with Sutter's stewardship. Now, it's all Sutter and the Kings are struggling with its subtleties. Like, they are just thinking for a split second more than before and it's slowing them down. Just a little excuse for the Kings for how they're playing up to this point.

Actually Sutter himself said that Frattin has been one of the few bright spots for this team thus far (more importantly, that could be a metaphor for how lackluster the Kings have played this early in the season).

I think he only has 2 assists so far, but he hasn't looked out of place.

I thought the 3rd line of Clifford-Lewis-Frattin looked pretty good, had some nice energy and cycling. Lewis looks better at center and even Clifford looked strong tonight, for the first time since last January.

The King-Stoll-Nolan line was weak, I have always been a critic of Stoll but even I am shocked at just how horrible he has become, I'm not sure he will be an NHL player when his contract is up after next season. What does this guy realistically add to this team that could not be replicated by someone making 60% or more less than what Stoll does, will he ever score another goal?
yeah kinda sad, he has just lost it offensively. It all started two seasons ago.

doughty needs to be paired with jake muzzin! jake muzzin is gonna have to strap himself on deweys jockstrap in order to be an top pairing d man.

doughty is imo the best defencemen in the league he does it all and he carries the whole play of the ice whomever hes paired with. more importantly they can get the puck out of our zone quick.. muzzins not good enough to be paired with any of our other defensemen. but his offensinve prowess is worth the risk imo.

Muzzin already has one of the worst +/- in the entire league already. Ouch.

Yes BUT...

5. Kings coach Darryl Sutter pulled no punches when discussing the play of D Jake Muzzin, telling Kings Insider, "He's struggling a lot," later adding, " You're not going to win very many games if you're a guy who's playing significant minutes, and you're a high-minus player."

This, of course, is where we can look beyond Muzzin's plus-minus to see that the Kings have fared very well, possession-wise, with Muzzin on the ice. However, their goaltending has been suspect (.714 SV%) with Muzzin on the ice, but that is how a strong shot differential turns into a negative plus-minus in a hurry.

This isn't to suggest that Muzzin can't play better, but it is a suggestion that maybe his team-worst minus-5 isn't entirely his fault.

I first watched the Monarchs and that was some quality exciting hockey play with much speed and skill. Then I watched the Kings and had a hard time to stay awake.

Call me crazy, but I think Derek Forbort is going to be the first call up(defense), and they are going to pair him with Doughty.

Especially if Muzzin/Mitchell/Regehr continue to struggle.

I think everyone is jumping the gun regarding the players who are struggling. It's only been 4 games, Mitchell has lost a season, Stoll had a medical scare this summer, Frattin is learning a new system. They just need to keep playing.

I'll take it, but I'm still hoping the Kings can play a more complete 60 minutes very soon.

Teams don't usually just come out of a funk at the drop of a hat. It takes a few games. You lose a game badly, then get back to doing more fundamental things right in the next game(maybe you win, maybe you lose), then the next game is built on that(maybe you win, maybe you lose), and then you start hitting a stride again in the following game. Just the ebb and flow of a season.

And why does it have to be very soon? If it's game 78, and the Kings need to win, then very applies. If there are 78 games remaining, you have some time to work things out.

Also not a big fan of Regehr. I'll take Scuderi, hands down, at 3.5 or whatever he's getting, over Regehr. Difference is night and day. I miss Scuds.

Who wouldn't take Scuderi over Regehr? It really wasn't up to the Kings though.
