I looked it up: The average NHL player plays on average 4.5 years. However, when looking at the data in detail the top 25% of players played an average of 12 years, whereas the bottom 75% played an average of 2 years.Would you say the average player plays 7 to 10 real years of hockey. Asking them to write off 3 to 4 years of there career for a maybe good team. Odds are still against picking first and against a quick rebuild.
I believe the players know this will be a historic bad year, they will not want there name attached to it.
Not standing on an edge, just being realistic. The question I don’t know is will Arizona market survive a rebuild, good thing is our owner is a gambler
Tanking helps the career of border line NHL players, they get a roster spot they wouldn't otherwise get on a better team. All of the better players you would want to keep (forgetting their salary), Chych/Keller/Crouse/Schmaltz, are the ones that would want out. On a better team, their stats would be better, and their next contract would be better, let alone settling for 3 years or more on a losing team.
Careers are too short for young average or above players to not want out of AZ, I know I would, losing sucks and it hurts my very short career earning ability.
