I guess, on the bright side, that would typically mean weekend NIGHT playoff games instead of day games?

Chalk that up as a net win in my eyes, ice quality be damned.

No, the NBA likes to play day games in the playoffs on weekends. Witness when all three teams in Staples were in the playoffs during the 2011-2012 season. It was a madhouse at Staples one weekend with 4 playoff games Friday through Sunday as well as that bike race.

So it does present as a problem...unless the NBA and NHL cooperate and at least TRY to separate the playoff games to different days. Still, if both teams go far there is a distinct possibility they will be playing of the same day more than once.

Okay, I'm slow, you mean no day games for the Kings?

One of the reasons they have been so successful I think, is that they haven't had any to date.

Of course, come this Saturday... :/

I couldn't stop laughing at the King goal replay. King just sat there and watched the goalie flop around, like, "Are you done yet?" And then tapped it in, Happy Gilmore style.

I never understood why the leagues play in all the same buildings and have almost the exact same season, only 2 or 3 weeks offset.

Wouldn't basketball be better served as more of a summer sport, only to compete with baseball? When the two leagues are having the playoffs at the same time it just seems weird and wrong.

50 points in 35 games (23-8-40) is really great. It reminds me of the old old days.

I said it before the start of the season and I am going to keep saying it what a great time (life) it is to be a Kings fan!

GO KINGS GO!

AMEN to this, I go back to the Bob Nevin led Kings and thru the glory days of Dionne, Simmer, Taylor, and this is by farthe best time to be a Kings fan, gone are the days of hoping to make the playoffs and then riding a hot goalie to the second round, I know some question DL's moves or lack of moves but we have a REAL,BONAFIDE, contending team for at least a few more years and seeing how well these kids are being developed in Manc. could be perennial contenders from now on. if you told people in the eighties that the Red Wings would contend for nearly 2 decades they would ask for some of what your smoking , lets hope that becomes us in the 2020's..................WOOHOO GO KINGS GO

Attaguy Jonesy

Frozen Royalty ‏@frozenroyalty 52m According to the Elias Sports Bureau: #LAKings Martin Jones is the 3rd goalie in #NHL history to record 3 shutouts in his 1at 6 starts

Damn I almost forgot about the great Flat Walsh. He was an incredible goaltender. I remember when I used go watch him play.. ok.. no I don't. I don't remember him or the other guy. And I've never heard of either. I'm sure they were great players though.

Just looked them up. Flat Walsh wasn't much of a player. Didn't play many games and was very average most of his career. Frank Brimsek, however, was actually a really good goalie. In his first year he went 33-9-1 with 10 shutouts in 43 games played with the Bruins.

Considering that neither played debuted post World War 2, that stat is deceiving. Scoring was MUCH lower in those days compared to even the dead puck era.

Also the NHL was basically a past time for most guys. A lot of those guys had "real" jobs as well.

For reference, Flat Walsh had those 3 shutouts in 6 games across 3 different seasons (26-27, 27-28, 28-29) with two different teams (Monteal Maroons and New York Americans. Seems most of those SO's came with the Americans as he had a 0.23 gaa in 4 games to start the year with the Americans in 28-29. He would go on to play just 4 more seasons with the Maroons before retiring from hockey.

Frank Brimsek would have a much more storied career, starting for the Bruins for 9 seasons and the Blackhawks for one at the end of his career. However his gaa was 1.56 in his rookie year and in the high 1's low 2's throughout the war years (39-43) and rose dramatically to the high 2's, mid 3's in the post war years (45-50) after taking two years off (I assume to go to war?).

None the less, it is easy to see this feat has not been even close to equaled in anything resembling a modern time.
