They also made it a point to suck long enough to get a ton of assets, including a legit 1C and a legit high end 2C.

We were bad for like 2 minutes and decided we had enough.

Granted it would have helped a lot if we didn't whiff on 2nd, 7th, 9th, and arguably 1st (and the Kravtsov draft was just one of the most ass drafts in history, nothing could have been done).

But yeah, selling Zibanejad and Kreider and getting a couple of more high picks would have helped a lot. Imagine getting Hughes in 2021 and Cooley in 2022.

We would be coming out of it now, which a bunch of cap and a chance to add Rantanen to a young group.

Also, that Shesterkin contract is becoming a bigger joke by the day. Just what an absurdly bad decision, both at the time and 10x in hindsight. I mean we have to just be the dumbest motherf***ing franchise in the league (1 cup in 85 years despite the absolute most resources and having no problem attracting talent - it checks out). He’s been a legitimate superstar but the Panarin signing was absolutely brain dead as well. Completely f***ed the rebuild and essentially created a situation where now, just 5.5 years later, we need to rebuild the rebuild. And we’ll fail atrociously at that too. Cheering for this team really is the highest form of masochism.
