Yeah, this isn't the year. But we all knew that - let's be honest.

Goals of 2022-2023:
1. Don't lose Meier for nothing. Either get him resigned, or trade him for futures.
2. Get out of another bloated contract: Couture, Vlasic, EK. I'd lean Couture. He still might have some perceived positive value to a team like Washington/Buffalo for different reasons.
3. Don't ruin Eklund/Bords.
4. Draft Bedard, Michkov, or Fantilli.

Thought experiment.

If you could trade Eklund for a guarantee that the Sharks drafted Bedard, would you do it?
I wouldn't, I love what Eklund would bring. I don't want the Sharks to trade away the good players they draft and develop, what a waste of time.

I'd love if they followed in the Canadiens footsteps and played rookies this year knowing they will not make the playoffs. Give the youth an opportunity of some sort.

It's all very "the blind leading the blind" right now.

Asking you back a question: Should the Sharks trade Meier and target prospects and draft picks? He's in his prime, and we're not making the playoffs anytime soon. If they team is not keen on having the few good ones we have mentor the youth, I don't see a point in keeping a very good player just to lose most of the games in a bad fashion.

Meier can’t walk at the end of the season, he’s still an RFA fortunately. Unfortunately, his QO is a billion dollars.

As someone pointed out earlier in this thread, where are Meier, Hertl, Couture and Karlsson?? They need to start producing so this team can win some games.

Those 4 are not enough to beat teams like the ones we have played so far.

Tonight, yeah, they might be able to do enough to carry this whole team to a win.

In a heartbeat. Bedard is someone you build around. As much as I love Eklund and think he will be a good top line player, Bedard has potential to be a top 5 player in the league. I’d give up anything on this franchise for a guarantee of Bedard.

You need good talent right away when bedard is coming into the league though and younger the better. Removing all the young talent to get a franchise player is how you end up like buffalo or edmonton.

Keeping the young top line talent like eklund and bords for when bedard is drafted is how you become the penguins or chicago.

You definitely need the young talent but if you don’t have the generational talent then who cares? That’s how you become SJ, NSH, or VAN. The ultimate goal is to win the cup. You can’t win without a top player in the league. Bedard will become that unless there’s some huge drop which is very unlikely.

Obviously you’d like to keep Eklund and draft Bedard but that wasn’t the question.

This is technically correct. My assumption is that if this season is awful and Meier's production is impacted by this (let's just say he has a 20g 25a season), and he then signs his QO, you aren't likely to get much for him next year in a trade and he can just walk to UFA.

It's far too early to jump to that conclusion.

For the last 25 years i have been getting up at 4am about 60 times each regular season to listen to - and later watch - the Sharks…

During the playoffs, I have listened to/watched nearly every game, which meant getting up even earlier most nights.

So just 🤫
No and Good for you. I'm sure there's a medal for that somewhere
3 games into the new regime. First thing they look to be doing is under going a change in the culture.

A much needed change if you ask me.
Way over due

Eklund for Bedard straight up? Yes. Eklund and whatever draft pick we end up with? I would want to wait to see where we pick.
Blindly? Probably not. Sharks likely won't be bad enough for a bottom 3 finish.

Would you trade 100k for 200k?
Not a good analogy l. It's like trading 100k and a great lottery ticket (with 200k as the grand prize) for that 200k.

i think it's sorta implied since you could have Eklund plus a ~20% chance at Bedard or a 100% chance at Bedard.

I don't get how that works though since Eklund isn't even on the roster so getting rid of him doesn't even affect the lottery chances currently.
Call it a bad analogy, but it was just as bad of a thought experiment.

I don't think you understand thought experiments...
