After watching the first three games, I think there is no point to tune in again as long as they don’t recall some of the promising prospects (Bordeleau, Eklund, Merkley).

I am not criticizing the decision to give all three time in the AHL, but watching a team of 4th-liners is just not worth it…

Cicek over Merkley

Honestly had the same thought. Eklund, Bordeleau and Merkley would at least give us a reason to watch the games, right now it’s a little brutal.

TBH I would prefer they tank and get a high pick at the same time as giving their young players some experience in the AHL.

Watch the Barracuda if you want a competent San Jose based team tbh.

Their assistant athletic trainer is especially talented I've heard...

What does it mean that this team falls off a cliff possession wise in the 2nd and 3rd periods? Is that just how bad teams look now? Is that a conditioning thing?
Could be that good teams don't take bad opponents seriously and come out of the gates slow...the TMac Sharks used to do that all the time lol

I highly doubt the Sharks win the lottery in any case, even if they finish last. If they have a chance to give Bedard to either a team like Coyotes (desperarely need a franchise player) or Blackhawks (O6 team, wohoo), they'll do it.

I'm afraid this is whats going to happen, after a horrible season we get like #4 pick and miss couple of studs. Of course it's a deep a draft but if we go straight 0-82 I would at least want Bedard or Fantilli.

Thought experiment.

If you could trade Eklund for a guarantee that the Sharks drafted Bedard, would you do it?
Anything for a probably franchise changing player.

My god, FIVE PERECENT Expected Goals For? That's abysmal.
We all now that he's going to progress to his mean eventually.

I'm more concerned with question arks like Lindbolm and Gregor (and pleasantly surprised by Kunin).

The way the game went isn't that surprising - the Canes are one of the three favourites to come out of the East and the Sharks are, well, the Sharks. If they can't generate a normal level of offense tonight then it will be a much bigger cause of concern. I don't think the PP got into a set position once last night, just bad execution all around, and great PK'ing by Carolina. Wish Labanc had buried that chance, they didn't have any that were close to that quality the rest of the game.

Even though losing is the plan, losing a game like this sucks the morale out of the team, which is the danger any org faces when tanking. Home opener, close game, would be nice to have a small victory there

We are not tanking.

We just suck.

The losing culture you fear is still going to occur, because this team sucks and will lose because of that.

However you should be stoked with what you are watching so far. Hard fought losses. Literally precisely what you have asked for, and used as your core argument against an ACTUAL rebuild for at least a couple years now.

Enjoy

You're right. Hard fought loses are what I have argued for (over tanking).

Just would be nice to get wins on special nights like last night

When your only goal comes from a guy with 5:59 of TOI. You're tanking correctly.
Just seeing the roster configuration it’s clear that’s what’s happening. The young guys will get called up after the deadline when we’re way out of it and their production won’t have much impact on the team’s draft pick.
