If they dont like it, defend it. This tournament has always had scores like this. These teams know that they have a good chance at getting blown out when they face the best teams in the tournament. This is not a bunch of 8 year olds, they should play better if they dont want to get blown out.
No its 17 and 18 year Olds who are being sent to Slaughter and people like you are calling for more blood.

It's not enough to beat them, its really only a win if you can get them to quit or cry, amirite?

Listen, I know that there are some countries who take great pride in sending men to beat up on decidedly inferior competition, Canada shouldn't be one.

Yeah I know goal differential is important in a short tournaments, but I am not a big fan of running it up like this.
Denmark was a sacrificial lamb. No way they should have drawn Canada so early. You can't blame they players. They were bred like lions

So the cosmo Kramer rule? To get a black belt, beat up on a bunch of kids.

The purpose is to win, it isn't to embarass your opponent, and although its unlikely to happen any time soon, what goes around comes around.

And they are freaking kids.
Incorrect.....

The majority of players are both teams are over the age of 18 and are therefore adults.

This makes a farce of the series. A weak pool with weak sister teams could set up Canada for a fall. On the other hand they can play everyone and need not put themselves out too much--just a practice against some slow moving pylons with a goalie who should go back to ski jumping or whatever.

They use GF as a tiebreaker in the standings.

No other option but to run up the score if you want to finish above Russia.

Did anyone else notice the lack of chemistry on the Suzuki line. There is a reason two of them were the only two players on the entire team to not register a point.

Then they shouldnt even be in this tournament if they need to be eased up on. Calling for blood.....lol
It is beneficial because of how the rules are, that scoring a lot of goals is fine.

I think your pity of them is much worse.

These are just the easy games, it gets tough against Sweden, Finland, USA, etc.

Wanted Cody Glass to be captain, I know it was Comtois because he was returning, but he doesn't scream captain material to me. But I completely hope he proves me wrong.

It's not an invitational, they are in becuase they deserve to be in.

And if you want to make it like the ladies game where a limited number of teams beat the snot out of everyone else before meeting in the final, that's gonna be great for the game.

Maybe next year Isreal can ice a team and we can see if we can paste them by a century!

Hazzah!

I agree, 14 -0 doesn't look good. But how do you suggest a mercy rule work in this tournament?

I know in some kids hockey if they go in to the 3rd period up by 5+ goals, running time continues as long as that 5 goal difference exists.

But what if it's 6-0 at the end of the first period? Where do you draw the line?

Might be reading to much into the role of a captain

Well, the whole "player point standings" are kinda a waste now since Canada decided to run up the score so everyone could boost their stats vs a team that had no business playing here.

I've never really understood the blowout etiquette, Canada is supposed to let up, but it's ok for Denmark to try and break the shutout? Or do both teams enter an unspoken agreement to run the clock out when the lead hits double digits?

So, what do you suggest?

Sure there is, don't lose to Russia. Winning by 14 is unsportsmanlike, period.

Nah.

Point is, there's a purpose behind running up the score. Something with a secondary purpose is never going to be unsportsmanlike.

Same goes if a Denmark player had laid a huge body check while losing 10-0. They would be playing hard to keep the goal differential down.
