I think for some guys getting the confidence booster of “you’re our guy now, show us what you got” goes a long way. He was essentially asked to be a #1 defenseman and, while maybe not exactly reaching that level, has shown he has way more to give than people thought.

Watching him though, the trade was just absolutely insane. I really like the guy and hope he’s part of the future team.

Definitely deserves to stay as long as he keeps his play up. That being said one of the clear messages Grier has had since day 1 is he wants players who want to be here and if you don’t he will accommodate your exit. Big fan of that

He could be. Whatever he does this year, he'll have to at least replicate next year. If this ends up being a one-off, it's going to be tough to want to commit to a guy with his track record unless it's a short deal. Right now, I'd probably 2 years at 5 or 6 mil but it's easy to move off from that figure depending on his performance.

Yeah, I think it's fair to say that Walman has wildly exceeded anything he's ever done before. If he played this well last year for Detroit, I don't think they would have traded him even if he were a minor personality issue.

Some guys just need a change of scenery to click. A hidden value in Walman is that he's making Ceci look better than he is, which will improve his value at the deadline.

Agreed on all fronts. It also makes things easier on the Ferraro front. He gets sheltered a bit more which will increase his effectiveness which should increase his value and make it easier to be patient with Mukhamadullin and/or Cagnoni.
