If a significant part of what held him back was mental (loss of his father, entering NHL’s player assistance program), maybe he’s healed or improved significantly on that front given his ongoing therapy and passage of time. We’ll need to see how he responds.
The guy has a unique personality. I like the fact the Flyers have set up a Michkov intervention team to interface with Torts. I think Laine will need special attention too. For example, I approved kicking the shit out of Slaf to make him play better, but that might not be the way to go with Laine.

Each player comes with a distinct set of character traits, mental and emotional attributes and weaknesses — there is no one size fits all.

I believe this management group is equipped to handle that, given the specialized personnel they’ve retained. We saw the best example with how they dealt with Mailloux and got him to buy into their protocols.

All Laine wants to do is get back to playing and live up to his hype. He's got everything he needs to do that. I can see him re-signing with us if he returns to form. I don't think he'd risk another team if things are working here.
Bergy would have already signed him to an 8 year , 12 million AAV extension after his goal the other night. It didn't take much for old numbnuts to give our extensions

I mean condition. Nobody can fool physiology. If someone not only doesn't play for a long time, but also doesn't skate much, it will definitely show.

Ol' numbnuts would never have been able to acquire Laine the way we did anyway. Or Monahan. But yeah, he would have been signed the second he got off the plane.

Laine has the potential to be a star forward for us. Something we haven't had in Montreal in a very long time.

Well, both mental and physiological aspects can be contributory. Laine has sure gone through a lot.

For us it was obviously problems with skating and quality of play. But it was only a couple of games, 5 at most, and again everything was fine. I don't count the games after the concussion, he couldn't recover from that for a long time.

By the way, his game hasn't shown any such issues at all, I don't think since the death of his father - the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. I'm not counting 2023/24, although he was gradually getting better and would have 1 PPG and quality overall stats again.
