My math may be off by a point or two, but Ghost and Walman have as many points as the entire Red Wings blue line so far this season. That includes Mo and Ed.
Tired of hearing because those two have defensive deficiencies, we are better off. Those two are better in the d zone than Benny and Jeffy.
Ghost and Walman > Chiarot and Petry
In every way.
Ghost 19 pts in 23 games
Walman 17 pts in 21 games
For a combined cap hit of $6.7 million
Meanwhile I gotta watch Chiarot and Petry 20 minutes a night for a combined cap hit of $7 million
Thanks Stevie
I'm tired of hearing about them because of the oversimplified argument you're making.
Ghost got a 3 year deal. If Yzerman gave him that contract people would be (understandably) complaining that he signed a plug that will block guys like ASP. It might be nice having Ghost on the team this season. 2027? not so much.
Ghost plays the fewest ES TOI minutes on Carolina. He also plays the most PP minutes. So if he's on the Wings Ed would never sniff the power play and Seider would maybe be on PP2 at best.
Chiarot, by comparison plays the 2nd most ES TOI minutes on the team. Petry is 4th. They are also 3rd and 4th in PK minutes.
Ghost is not better than them in every way. He is a one-dimensional defenseman being utilized correctly on the Hurricanes and essentially slots in as a better version of D'Angelo (Of his 19 points, 13 are on the PP). Petry and Chiarot are playing above where they should be in the lineup on a team prone to running around in their own end.
Yzerman paid to give Walman away. It's not like he or people here thought Walman was the worst Dman on the team. Walman was effectively the team's #3 Dman. There was clearly something else going on, reinforced by Walman being a healthy scratch less than 15 games in with his new team.
If I had to make a guess I would bet Walman is either not doing the work with the team trainers to rehab from injury and/or using his own methods the team doesn't approve of. Because both incidents involved him coming back from injury.
Either way he's gone. You guys act like Yzerman thought Petry and Chiarot were better than Walman when here in the real world he got shipped out for something not related to his on-ice performance that Yzerman thought was so unacceptable and detrimental to the team, he paid to get rid of him.
Walman plays over 22 mins a game, I am sure some of those are tough minutes.
Walman wasn't traded because Yzerman thought he couldn't handle tough minutes.
