Chiarot was particularly bad tonight. When the red wings face teams that can actually skate good, chiarot and petry get exposed big time. They looked like minor leaguers out there at some points.

Ghost 19 pts in 23 games
Walman 17 pts in 21 games
For a combined cap hit of $6.7 million

Meanwhile I gotta watch Chiarot and Petry 20 minutes a night for a combined cap hit of $7 million

Thanks Stevie

you wouldn't want them taking the matchups Chia and Petry take, either. This isn't saying Chiarot and Petry have played well, but their deployment doesn't play to the strengths of the guys you're pining for either.

My math may be off by a point or two, but Ghost and Walman have as many points as the entire Red Wings blue line so far this season. That includes Mo and Ed.

Tired of hearing because those two have defensive deficiencies, we are better off. Those two are better in the d zone than Benny and Jeffy.

Ghost and Walman > Chiarot and Petry
In every way.

rules confusing af, so if talbot is just outside crease ppl can skate thru him?

No, but what i see on the replay is Talbot on the blue and the Devil player to his side. Then they each make their moment essentially simultaneous and contact is made outside the crease.

To me it is inadvertent and I don't have a problem with the call, particularly not changing the call on the ice.

I would be pretty pissed if we scored on that play and its called back.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

This team is disappointing. We need to reassess the management types around Yzerman. His brother as pro scout and Draper as assistant GM are not seeing great results.
Yzerman's brother is a pro scout ???

We have to see what becomes of finnie buchelnikov lombardi etc... before firing ppl cause we have some "promising" guys coming

Draper and the scouts I'm sure are looking for types of guys yzerman wants but in the first few rounds I wish we'd take risks on guys with huge offensive upside

Unless yzerman changes his mindset that will never happen and we'll just continue drafting 2 way guys that's why we need a top 5 pick again cause that's how we got raymond. Id hate to think what we'd have had at pick 9

Walman plays over 22 mins a game, I am sure some of those are tough minutes.

I'm tired of hearing about them because of the oversimplified argument you're making.

Ghost got a 3 year deal. If Yzerman gave him that contract people would be (understandably) complaining that he signed a plug that will block guys like ASP. It might be nice having Ghost on the team this season. 2027? not so much.

Ghost plays the fewest ES TOI minutes on Carolina. He also plays the most PP minutes. So if he's on the Wings Ed would never sniff the power play and Seider would maybe be on PP2 at best.

Chiarot, by comparison plays the 2nd most ES TOI minutes on the team. Petry is 4th. They are also 3rd and 4th in PK minutes.

Ghost is not better than them in every way. He is a one-dimensional defenseman being utilized correctly on the Hurricanes and essentially slots in as a better version of D'Angelo (Of his 19 points, 13 are on the PP). Petry and Chiarot are playing above where they should be in the lineup on a team prone to running around in their own end.

Yzerman paid to give Walman away. It's not like he or people here thought Walman was the worst Dman on the team. Walman was effectively the team's #3 Dman. There was clearly something else going on, reinforced by Walman being a healthy scratch less than 15 games in with his new team.

If I had to make a guess I would bet Walman is either not doing the work with the team trainers to rehab from injury and/or using his own methods the team doesn't approve of. Because both incidents involved him coming back from injury.

Either way he's gone. You guys act like Yzerman thought Petry and Chiarot were better than Walman when here in the real world he got shipped out for something not related to his on-ice performance that Yzerman thought was so unacceptable and detrimental to the team, he paid to get rid of him.

Walman plays over 22 mins a game, I am sure some of those are tough minutes.

Walman wasn't traded because Yzerman thought he couldn't handle tough minutes.

Ya it’s very stupid. Talbot also established his positioning. That’s an easy goalie interference imo. Would rather them just get rid of coaches challenges because they f*** them up half the time
The refs handed out this game to the devils.
1. It was not a tripping penalty on Holl, he never tripped him in any way. It wasn't interference either. It was a bad call.
2. No penalty on Larkin. Larkin never got a shot on goal and the defender had his stick around Larkins hands. This is always a penalty. I couldn't see the replay from another angle, but it seemed like an obvious call.
3. Of course it was a goalie interference. Redmond and Daniels never mentioned it, the the devils make the very obvious contact with his knee to Talbot's blocker, then a slight touch to Talbot's head. He tries to avoid contact and I would not call it a penalty either if not for the knee blocker contact. That referees' mistake cost us 2 goals.
Talbot is about to establish his position, the devils player tries to avoid him and there is slight contact to the head. Since Talbot didn't clearly established his position this is a good goal, and the right call by the refs. But everything changes when you realise there was the knee blocker contact before everything else.

It wasn’t bc it was actually interference. I was there front row to the right of Cam and it was very blatant.
What did you exactly see what we didn't see on the repeated replays?

I am sure you didn't see anything, but let see what you exactly saw.

I'm sure some are, but as a whole chia and petry face higher quality of competition with way more defensive zone starts.

Part of that is because Detroit has a total inability to move the puck up ice, so those two spend more time chasing the puck in their zone. It also allows the other team to get in a good change to create a mismatch, upping the quality of competition score.

Keep an eye on that the next three or four games. Watch out for long defensive shifts where the wings are tired and the other team gets a line change against Petry/Chiarot. Bad coaching lets it happen. Low talent makes it the disaster it is.
