What doesn't make sense is trading assets for an over the hill has been that the team has no control over after this season is over.

Read my post again. I'm not advocating for another rebuild........yet.

But this is a trade that can happen and it needs to happen. The Vesey experiment on the first line is over. He’s terrible. Gallant has 0 ability to fix the lines with 5 forwards on the roster who are not even NHL players at this point. I’m including Laf or Kappo( you pick) in the 5

Vesey, Blais, Carpenter, Gauthier, Kappo and Laf all are absolutely terrible right now.

I can see Panarin asking out if it's evident this is a rudderless ship that isn't going anywhere. We're stuck with Trouba and Kreider until their NMC's turn into NTC's.

Even if they wanted out, any of them, no team is going to want them in trade. Panarin at 14% of the cap, maybe even 12% if the cap goes up, no one other than the Rangers, and like Columbus would build their team around that deal.
