Make my day.
I can see how you can fault Luongo for the OT goal, but the tying goal is not at all on him imo.

3 Canucks went down blocking the shot and left Hertl all alone with all the time in the world to pick up the deflection. Not Luongo's fault.

OT goal wasn't good but it wasn't terrible. He played the one timer, got the ice completely covered and the glove there for the hail mary stop. Misjudged it as he had more time.

Pretty much what I feel. I think some people are still in denial and believe they are a very good team that can run with the Hawks, Bruins etc of the league. Simply not true. Take the Canucks for what they are and what they are is a middle of the pack team that if they make the playoffs will probably make it as an 7th or 8th seed. I would be shocked to see this team do any real damage in the playoffs. I'm not just saying that because of this loss either. Hell they played real well tonight. Should have gotten the 2 points.
But just look at the line up. It's not a line up of a real legit contending team.

People were pretty willing to accept that this is not a Cup team before the season began.

I seriously think that Luongo has no choice other than to fall flat on his face when moving from side to side.

He used to be able to stay up, but as he's aged I think he honestly lost that ability.

Watched the replay and it was agonizing to watch him fall forward as he tries to slide across. I know he went down when the pass from Couture went to the other Sharks forward on his right, but is there really no way he can shuffle across without belly flopping?

Not blaming it on him, but he needed to be better here.

We need to figure out how to get Stastny out of Colorado. He'd be a good fit I think.

Not sure why they'd move him if they were a playoff team - which they are looking like they are.

My concern with him would be that he looks too much like a Derek Roy type acquisition - a smallish centre that puts up 50 - 60 points, that was once a lot better than he is now.

This is quite a bit of hyperbole, in my opinion.

They dominated the Leafs and have played well against the Sharks with middling results. Outside of that they have four regulation wins against the Flyers, Sabres, Oilers and Capitals.

I think we are an okay team, but excellent? Much like last year we rely on the OT/SO to get us points and have a hard time finishing teams off. That counts for something. It's one thing to say we "deserved to win" because we played hard. It's another to say that we're an excellent team because we often look good out there. At some point, actually scoring actual goals and actually beating teams counts for something.

We are an okay team. We are maybe a good team. I think we need to add some pieces before we call ourselves "excellent."

And yes, I've been saying this since before this recent skid so please don't go there. I'm the guy that suggested we shouldn't rely on Santorelli for offense and got stomped for it cause he was still on his streak.

Get used to it. Criticism and realistic thinking doesn't fly around here. It's Canucks rock or bust.

Normally I don't blame refs but wow that was blame worthy.

Still the canucks couldn't put the nails into the coffin and allowed a ref to make that stupid call to cost the extra point.

But as I said in the game thread the canucks have shown they can play this Sharks team and be the better team using Torts system. The ending sucked but they played well.

Agreed. The last couple minutes of the game aside, I loved the fact that we dominated them at ES. Keep it up and we'll win more games than we lose. Just **** luck tonight.

If you're a Canucks fan, and you think that was a proper penalty to call in overtime, I don't even know what to say to you. Hardly an open and shut case on that so-called hook.

Exactly. Where was the hook?

your stick is allowed to be located in their midsection, it's only a penalty if there's a TUG. there is no TUG to be found within MILES OF THE PLAY.

This.

Let's not be so sure. There's a lot of good teams ahead of Vancouver right now. Out of all those teams, I only see Colorado as a potential team to drop out of the top 8. You can post as many statistics as you'd like, but there's a lot of variables unaccounted for in a full season and of course anything can happen.

We were not even in the top eight in 2011, yet managed to win the President's Trophy. I would rather bank on statistical evidence than pessimistic anecdotes in the midst of November. They are certainly more creditable, non?

Not blaming it on him, but he needed to be better here.

He just isn't experienced enough to do the move he tried to block off the down-low play and then get across. He's only added sliding to his repertoire in the last two years.

When he flopped on the Hertl goal it was desperation since the puck flukily bounced that way.

When he flopped on the OT goal he has to take the blame because he didn't have to block the opposite post on a 4-on-3. It's situational awareness as a goalie. You know there is a high possibility of extreme cross-ice passing to the backdoor, so he should have stayed on his feet. That would have enabled him to react to the pass to Boyle.

Jonathan Quick in this case would have exploded off the post and maybe gotten there in time. Of course he would have been lower to the ground so he still might not have made the save. Lu has only been doing this move for two years so I don't expect him to be able to do the same. He tried his best but he just doesn't have the skating skill at this moment. Thus, the flopping.
