One thing I DONT think our system does well--and it's one of the things being most exploited lately--is take away the d-man as both a trailer AND a point shot. Theoretically, the 'protect home plate' thing would lead to blocking d-men shots, but the more skilled offensive d-men in the league--like Burns, as the best example lately--have zero problem getting a quick, deadly shot through and past traffic (which appears to be one of Quick's biggest weaknesses). So, we're getting a lot of outside goals scored on us because one of our guys gets in the lane--causing a screen--but without keeping the puck out of danger. It's also strange because even though our backcheck is ferocious, similar to the previous problem, we collapse too hard and are vulnerable to the 2nd and 3rd waves. Sucks watching it an yelling at the TV when I see it being a system problem...sort of like how under Terry Murray a guy could just fade to the high slot and be completely uncovered because it was a soft spot in the system coverage. Argh.

Anyway, watch for it tonight, Ghost will get open lots on both natural skill/speed AND because he's wide open due to a system issue. He's getting multiple points.

Burns picked up right where he left off, didn't he RC.

For those reasons are why I want Gravel up here, he is quicker than Greene (for example) and can better backcheck against those 2nd and third waves. Tho, his weak point last season was his positioning (his break out pass, imo, is already there) and that could get exploited, still, under this scheme. But with AMart Gravel Drew and Muzz I think we have the speed and size to choke off those quick rushes.

As for Quick's weakness in traffic, no doubt. Sometime he's too athletic for his own good, but I was predicting a career year for him this year in light of all the hate he got for being a Vezina finalist (he hears it) and the World Cup nod (and subsequent failure). I think he has a chip on his shoulder and it showed last game. Damn shame he's out.

I should probably quit with the dramatics, KC, but I've been told by several members already that I'm gonna be put on their ignore list, mainly because they can't bring the heat back to me.

So I'm probly overstating it now, and I'll stop. I'm sure it's getting annoying to see in this thread. I guess my feelings got hurt :)

Do you like Patrick O'Neal? Lol :D

well you are being noticed for sure lol maybe ease up a little but what do i know I'm more of the black sheep of the forum lol As for O'Neal hes ok when i hear his voice i know hockey is close so gotta like that i guess

Well to be honest not sure how much longer i will be here or post in any game threads. I prefer the trade boards to be honest more friendly over all to new ideas. However while i am here i will be cheering hard and stating how i see things. I am sure we will have disagreement as no one ever agree 100% of the time. However we both realize that the kings are our team and no one should put us down for it. Cheers

gonna take train in to the game tonight to be able to partake in the festivities more and not deal with the 10... it's the 7th street exit from purple line right?

Yes Matt!!! 7th street. I do this exact trip about 5 times a year from NoHo with the little one, only I'm doing redline (coming from the north)

Same exit for both lines, tho, dude

right on. I live in claremont. it's only like a 3 min walk to the train so I'm going to try and use it more often... figure it's cheaper than gas and parking.

I'm a Flyers fan second so it's gonna be great to see both teams for the 50th anniversary year. going in as a double agent tonight with my leclair jersey. you get some great conversations with kings fans wearing a different jersey when you start dropping team info and line combos with them. it's fun to be a visitor in a place I consider my home team.

is Shore finally replaced by Dowd tonight? or do we still have another night of not realizing Shore is even playing on the team?

I remember when we first got Clifford he was the badass on the team, always standing up for guys and just a real mean player but as the years progressed and he got hit with injuries, I just think he's replaceable at this point, a cheap rookie can fill in his spot. He doesn't have any special skills, yah he has a few sparks here and there and he works hard like every other player, but he's just a regular 4th liner. Anyone can take his spot.

Everyone has a favorite player(s), so I guess I can see why you root for him.
