The thoughts of a man who has to be at work in less than six hours…

1. Mac Jones played a GOOD game. Not great - but good. His biggest problem is that his TEs are thus far his best weapons. JuJu and Parker are AT BEST #2 WRs on a Super Bowl caliber team. There is nobody on the Patriots that opposing coaches are saying “if we don’t shut this guy down, we’re f*cked” about. Nobody.

2. Give the Dolphins some credit. They are absolutely a contender to win the AFC Championship. They are talented and well coached. Honestly, I’m surprised the Pats only lost by 7.

3. Definitely some bad play-calling on both sides of the ball. Not a lot, but enough. Easy for me to say now, but the Patriots should have gone to the no-huddle sooner, and tried to run just a little less. I know you have to keep the Defense honest, but the Dolphins weren’t giving up ANYTHING on the ground. They cleaned up their issues from last week.

4. There is no way the Krafts aren’t thinking about moving on from Bill Belichick at the end of this season. Yes, the rest of the division (to varying degrees) has finally gotten their collective shit together, but the Patriots are 9-15 since December 18, 2021. Bill picks the players and the coaches. All of this is 100% on him. There isn’t a hall of fame QB to cover for his drafting failures anymore. If Tom Brady, Joe Montana, or John Elway were quarterbacking this team, MAYBE they’d be 2-0. Or 1-1. Or maybe they’d still be 0-2. I guarantee Bill’s job is very much in danger. Next week is NOT a layup.

5. At least Special Teams is clicking on all cylinders.

6. I need to be at work at 6am and it’s almost 12:30. See you all sometime later today.

Hell baby
They will beat bad teams, split games against fellow mid teams, and lose close games against good teams

They simply make too many mistakes. They’re not going to win games when they lose the turnover battle.

Thought Mac was fine, he’s a middle of the pack starting QB to me, probably between 15-20. I do think he’s improved over last year. Line needs to be much better. The offense looks more functional than last season but there’s still not enough talent at the weak points that we all knew were weak points heading into the off-season.

the defense is pretty good, they figured things out as the game went on and held a good offense to a manageable total

Baker Mayfield is having a resurgence. Kirk Cousins is still doing his thing. Jared Goff has turned back the clock a bit.

We can win with Mac. I'm fine with him being a top 15 QB. The problem is the weapons. Put Mac on Miami. Put Mac in Buffalo. I beg you he succeeds even better. It's the lack of surrounding talent. And again it's not addressed. We need a #1 WR. Period. And we don't have one. Pretty much every team in the league has one.

We got nada. It's embarrassing.

I think you can only get so far with those QBs if they’re not surrounded by a ton of weapons though and I don’t see Bill/Kraft dumping loads of money into true #1-2 receivers they’ve never really done it. And they haven’t really drafted them well either.

I think they’re gonna ride with Mac until they have to make a decision on his next contract. If they gotta pay him like a top 10-15 QB he’ll probably be gone imo.

I can picture it. . Late summer 2025 MJ. "Gotta keep learning".
Yeah. He’s gotta learn to play behind a different offensive line. This one opened very holes for the running game, but was porous enough to allow at least two sacks up the middle.

I don’t care who’s back there, the Patriots’ chances of winning that game with that line were iffy at best. We’re not even talking about the receivers yet…

And that was without Miami's allegedly best speed rusher.
