I didnt like the Kenzie broadcast maybe cause it was just a different voice so I switched to the Toronto feed. Don't mind giving her an opportunity and see how it goes

She's a better DEI hire than Cassie Campbell who was truly putrid at colour commentary and never improved.
She was better than many other play-by-play people, current and past.

I'm not sure I'd call her a DEI hire in that case. Maybe it's better to say that the hockey world is opening up opportunities to a more diverse group.

I think the concept of "equality of outcome" is misguided and dangerous, even if well motivated. However, "equality of opportunity" is a very important principal.

From what I see she is good enough.

It's wild to me anyone thought she was bad. It's as though they have never watched any of our nationally televised games.

Lalonde was fine. Knows the game and calls the game fairly well. But to me she just doesn't have the voice for it. Seemed to lack energy and didn't have that big voice that would get you excited.

She was good. Like who is considered great though? they are all the same level aside from the homers.

Also I don't wanna hear about how the team or no team give 60 or even 50 minute efforts. clearly it's possible.

I find it funny how self-proclaimed pragmatic, business-first, no-BS Trumpers don't understand how money works.

You want to expand your fanbase and get more women and people of colour to watch the game and spend their money on tickets/merch/subscriptions - you hire women and people of colour, and you sponsor events that popularize the game for that demographic. There are more than enough deserving candidates.

If you don't like it, take your hurt snowflake feelings and shove it. That's just business, nothing personal.

And Kenzie was great.

I'm talking about losers like this top comment under yesterday's highlights

I don't know if she was a DEI hire. Greg Millen wasn't but he's been horrific at his job for decades. Cassis Campbell I'm pretty sure was.

I'll have to hear a few more games before I can really make a judgement. It's weird hearing a (really) different voice calling the game. She did get a few names wrong early - like mistaking Norris for Stutzle at one point - but that could just be nerves.

Meh, that's pretty normal. She's in trouble when she starts combining names...like Alf Silversson.

Great to me is Gord Miller. What a pro that guy is.

I liked Kenzie though, I thought she had a pretty good voice for it and I wasn't distracted like I am with some other callers. I was *slightly* distracted knowing she's a Sens fan and wondering how the heck you call a game vs our 2nd most hated opponent** in an unbiased manner.

**I f***ing loathe Detroit. In a Detroit vs Toronto game, I go for Toronto. This happened relatively recently, so it's possible it's the first time in my life I've ever actually rooted for Toronto.

Brother do yourself a favour and don't ask lmao

Don't waste the brain power on learning politically charged buzz words, it's like staring into the Lost Ark. Enjoy the mental serenity and take in the only thing that matters right now, Sens hockey babyyyy.
Good advice! Curiosity still gets me at times, but I'm about done with it all.

It's especially hilarious in the context of hockey since from the outside looking in, it looks like many, many of the jobs in the industry are granted based on who they knew more than anything else.

I'll have you know CBC HNIC legend Bob Cole never made that mistake. Of course, he just called all the players "the Ottawa player" instead of using their names.
Not sure if I’m missing something but HNIC legend Bob Cole literally made that exact mistake.

She was ok. Called Jamie McLennan Jamie McLellan right out of the gate, and seemed to have trouble identifying which players were on the ice. All manageable mistakes. Has decent goal calls but I’m not used to them yet.

It was a regional broadcast, it's not supposed to be completely unbiased.

I once heard him ramble "the Ottawa Senators, usually win....or lose.....except when they tie".

Anything is an upgrade.

I've convinced myself that Ostapchuk coming out after a really good early stretch is a good thing as it will give him a chance to pause and watch from up top and soak a few things in with a bit more info on what to look for and learn out there. A reset of sorts before and kind of rookie slump could set in.
Ostapchuk will have to view from afar; he was assigned to belleville I think.
