I'm thinking that there won't be punishment, just changes to make it harder to sink this low again in the future. I just can't think of any concrete rule they could claim we broke to punish us for. We've met all the current requirements for icing a team as far as i can tell.

Edit: And I kinda believe (just a little bit) that the NHL needs/ wants this to work out for us. This is pretty extreme tho. Could set a bad precedent.
Agreed. This should be the last time anyone does this.

I haven't liked the last couple of games in terms of how the team played.

Earlier in the season they may have deserved better.... Now they don't.
Team systems are in place now and execution is better. We are a borderline NHL to very good AHL team, somewhere in that mix. Our lack of talent can't be overcome, every player is playing on average 2 lines above where they should be, getting much tougher assignments. Un fortunately, there is no end in sight.

Coyotes didn't beat the spread again, it's an easy bet.

I think the only thing that would keep a team from completely tanking like this is for every team that misses the playoffs to have the same chance at the top pick. Problem with that is the worst teams could stay bad longer if they don't get lucky. It also would bring conspiracy theories if winning franchises that just miss the playoffs one year won the lottery. There's really no good solution. If it went in order of record though and there was a rule against getting the first pick two years in a row, at least the same team would be highly unlikely to blow it up for more than one year at a time.
I like Shane Doan’s idea; The draft lottery odds are assigned to the non-playoff teams based on the order (not reverse order) of the post-trade-deadline W%.

Can't do it that way...there could be a team who's really a top 10 team in the league, but early injuries put them out of the playoffs, but yet they would have received the most points after the post-trade-deadline. Now you've just given a top 10 team the best percentage to make them even better.

For better or worse, the best way to help the bottom tier teams win is the current system, albeit, I'd only let teams move up 5 spots. I know it's arbitrary, but there are generally 4-6 teams that are truly worse than everyone else and they should be given the opportunity to improve the most.

Conspiracy theory: BA was brought in to salt the earth this season so that nobody will care when the Coyotes relocate to Houston at the end of the year.
He just overshot the mark is all. Hopefully he just goes on a UFA bonanza next summer. Signs a bunch of quality players to three year deals worth twice what they’re worth.

There won't be any punishment. We've tanked hard, perhaps the hardest ever but some of those old Buffalo and Oilers teams, amongst others, tanked almost as much.

Good lord. That man is sick. And I'm not talking about Chychrun. You need to send people home and away when they are sick. I hope McConnell not were allowed anywhere near the players, staff or colleagues, no wonder everything spreads like wildfire if you don't tell people to go home.

As Matt put it on Twitter… “There’s no IR for play by play guys.”

Protocols can easily be kept even in the booth. Last year Biz and Heeter sat in separate positions separated by plexiglass when Biz was coming off a bug. They made jokes about it throughout the broadcast.

If the NHL wants to blame anyone for two long decades of futility, blame them self. Sure they kept the team here, but they didn't give us the assets to run a NHL team. All we had was a GM and a coach.

I mean they can simplify it.

Draft order goes worst to best. You can’t pick in the top three two years in a row. If you finish top 3 twice, that second year you’re automatically put at 4.
Yup, keep it simple stupid.

He brought nothing unless the puck/play miraculously came to him. Just a really bad signing for a team that is already slow and old.
That is exactly how I see him as well. We have a couple of more just like him.

I turned on the channel to see what the score was and they just started interviewing Chych. He said he's not worried about his stats, he "JUST WANTS TO WIN". Hear that BA. Chych looked very discouraged. Said all the right things of course, but I think privately he is not happy. No wonder Kuemper and Kessel wanted and wants out. They knew exactly what was happening.

My thought has always been that this is only a 1 year thing given the amount of cap space next offseason and the draft assets he was able to get for the 2021 and 2022 drafts. I hope I'm not wrong. I'm thinking we are already ahead of the curve with Guenther last draft. They obviously won't be competing for a playoff spot next year, but I picture some more meaningful free agent signings coming that will lead to more competitive hockey. Weaponizing our cap space to this degree can't keep happening. There are only so many ELC's the team can give out and if they plan to bring up some of the young guys next year they will need to be surrounded by some vets who actually bring something to the table.

Of course, as we both know, players want victory more than anything else (pertaining to the game). The true toxicity started last night…. It was bad ugly.

No self respecting FA will come here until we start icing a team that can compete. We’re so far away from competing, it’s absurd.

Not hard to put a competitive team on the ice if you try. BA intentionally didn't try. And regarding FAs, if the draft goes as well as we hope next year then FAs will see what's happening and some will want to come.
