I saw an idea a guy came up with on Twitter years ago. The team with the most points after getting mathematically eliminated from reaching the playoffs gets the 1st pick, team with the 2nd most gets the 2nd pick, and so on. Granted, teams could still tank to be eliminated earlier, but they'd need to try and win to get high picks. It's a brilliant and perfectly executable idea for the NHL and NBA, which is probably why neither will ever try it.

I think this idea is dumb. Some people say the worst spot you can be in, is no-mans-land, not able to win a round. Mine would adress that. Also, this idea you talked about here would make blatant tanking even more effective- just play the worst goalie in the world for the first 50 games, and then play the team as it should have been the last 32, that would make the 1OA yours.

Anyhow, those are of course ideas for the future, not for 2022.

The picture totally froze again for me, so I give it up. Good game.

Or not, technically. :baghead:

My fear is that he made so little effort to ice a competitive team that they change the rules again to f*** us worse, like take away our 1st rounder for trying to lose or some shit.
I have been saying this all along. Tampering with the system. We will be punished will it be public or behind doors is the question

I'm thinking that there won't be punishment, just changes to make it harder to sink this low again in the future. I just can't think of any concrete rule they could claim we broke to punish us for. We've met all the current requirements for icing a team as far as i can tell.

Edit: And I kinda believe (just a little bit) that the NHL needs/ wants this to work out for us. This is pretty extreme tho. Could set a bad precedent.

I wouldn’t put it past the NHL to find some way to f*** us as they always have. Probably take all 3 of our first rounders and give them to Stevey Y just cuz

I think the only thing that would keep a team from completely tanking like this is for every team that misses the playoffs to have the same chance at the top pick. Problem with that is the worst teams could stay bad longer if they don't get lucky. It also would bring conspiracy theories if winning franchises that just miss the playoffs one year won the lottery. There's really no good solution. If it went in order of record though and there was a rule against getting the first pick two years in a row, at least the same team would be highly unlikely to blow it up for more than one year at a time.

I mean they can simplify it.

Draft order goes worst to best. You can’t pick in the top three two years in a row. If you finish top 3 twice, that second year you’re automatically put at 4.

Something like this makes sense to me. Anything else I can think of that they'd do seems like it could have a negative impact somehow else.

Bottom 3 lottery for first, second and third pick, after that, you can't pick top 3 next 3 years.

Part of the reason he tanked is because the league screwed them over so hard on the combine sanction. That and Chayka, who the league hates, left them a mess. Armstrong is one of the good old boys. I’m sure the league is happy they hired him and not some circus sideshow like Chayka again.
