I mean…when you go from Landeskog, Nichushkin, Helm, Byram and Girard to Hunt, Megna, Blidh, MacDonald (playing above where he should) and Englund you’re gonna have consistency issues and nights where the team is gonna get caved in. Kind of hard to take away anything from a random game in November with 1/3 of the Eagles in the lineup.

People keep saying this, but they weren't playing well even before Nuke/Byram/Girard went down. They were mediocre before the rush of injuries, and they're even worse now. Unsustainable PP and goaltending is the only reason they're not bottom 10 in the standings now.

They also just came off a short offseason and a Cup hangover. Not to mention they started slow last year, too. To be where they're at is just fine given the circumstances. All this hand-wringing is getting real old.

As long as they don't fall out of a wildcard spot, the only thing that matters is that they are healthy are starting to play the correct way as they enter the playoffs.

Hell, as long as healthy and playing well going into the playoffs the lower seed could actually make a difference in this year's draft. The Avs talked about the pressure of being at home in game 5s. Flip it, play game 5 on the road this summer.

Did they play well? No not really. But it is not always about your own team playing bad. Sometimes it is about the other team having a great game. IMO last night was a bit of the former and a lot of the latter.

Holy crap who knew Lehky had a one timer like that? The guy can do it all!

What a goal and what a move by Newy too.

Looked like he was running a wide receiver route on his goal. Won the faceoff and just stopped in his tracks. Then faked like he was gonna skate towards the left boards, then cut to the right, lost his man, and was wide open for the pass from Manson.

Set play but he sold the move in the neutral zone and then sold the move on the goalie. Great play.

Interesting thought that Bednar was the most testy I’ve ever seen him with a reporter when Baugh asked him about Newhook, and he gave him crap for continuing to ask about him. Which is odd since he scored a great goal. Feels like he wants to keep the pressure off the young Newhook, so he can just work through things.

Avs didn’t generate a lot of shots, gave up a lot, and they had too many careless turnovers in the D zone, but aside from that they worked really hard, and reacted well to their D zone mistakes to limit the quality chances.

They did great job at limiting the high quality chances, letting Franky see the shots, and cleaning up any rebounds.

Very weird game in the sense that they didn’t really have the legs in this game, didn’t play well, but worked really hard, and got the two points, so it’s hard to be too upset with them IMO.

I recall plenty of people spouting doom and gloom late last season as well when the team was focusing on staying healthy rather than winning meaningless games. Turned out to be a pretty good strategy.

Some had the mindset that teams don't just flip a switch for the playoffs. Obviously that's a silly thing to say as it happens pretty much every season.

If you’d actually read his post, it implied that they were playing terribly cause of injuries. Which isn’t true, because they were mediocre before the new slew of injuries.

Now if you want to move the goal post and say they’re playing terribly because it’s what always happens after a cup win (which isn’t actually true), sure, you can go ahead and do that. It’s still a terrible excuse for their mediocre play, but at the very least it has a modicum of plausibility.

The injury bug has been a problem since the beginning of the year. They haven't had their captain and best LW at all, and with the departures of Kadri and Burakovsky, they've been one line short the whole season. We knew there'd be depth issues aplenty going into this season, and then the spate of injuries made it ten times worse. But hey, somehow they're getting by while they try and get some healthy bodies back. It's far from an ideal situation but it could be far worse.

Basically if Cogliano-Compher-O'Connor was the fourth line, this team would be killin' it. Unfortunately they're the third line and in some cases getting second line usage. That's the problem.

I would. You dont need to go a thousand miles towards the puck and jump and hit your damn goalie. You shoulder check to see if there are any opps on rushing and go towards the puck at an angle at a reduced speed.
Tell me you have never played the position without telling me have never played the position. Yikes

His? You mean yours? You forget to log into your burner or something?

His was suppose to be you, and the quoted person was suppose to be someone else (expat).

Anyways, doesn’t matter. If you feel a team with the 8th worst xGF% in the league has no concerns outside of injuries, then that’s your perogative

And Bednar's still working at figuring out which 1/3 of the Eagles are the best 1/3 of the Eagles.

I would honestly pick up Jost. He knows the system already and would be a short term bandaid. Can always waive him again after.
If he was making $750k sure but the Avs are routinely sending shitters up and down from the NHL team to the farm to save $$$ on off days.

By picking him up, they'd be on the hook for over $1M against the cap.
