Going off the "How does the 2024-2025 Season Send for the St. Louis Blues?" thread 74.6% of the board voted either Miss Barely or Make the playoffs and lose 1st round. with most of the comments talking about us being a Wild Card team.


So far we do have a winner in that thread Tho. (drumroll)

I’m not happy about it, but maybe a solid Top 10 pick at the draft can bring in a contributor. I’m still excited about this team’s future and the he glut of young talent.

I’m less convinced Bannister will be the guy long term. But he’s a good developmental guy, and that should be the priority right now.

Binnington doesn't wear a letter but is a clear leader on the team and we saw an example of it the other night. In a game where the team clearly quit, a very rare and different kind of loss than a normal bad loss, the coach showed up the one leader who clearly doesn't quit. That itself is the coach quitting. I have a real problem with Drew Bannister in that game

There were 19 guys on the ice who quit on last night’s game. Binnington was one of them. He doesn’t get a free pass regardless of what he’s done before. He may not have been “to blame” for what happened in the third, but his body language was the opposite of a guy who was battling.

Not often but I have common sense unlike some. When they bypassed Thomas and handed the C to Schenn it was obvious they were having issues finding out who to give it to and felt either some werent ready or not C material. They clearly forced it because they didnt want to go into the season without a C. I think it shows a lack of leadership. They also let two Captains walk who were key parts of their Cup win.

Most of us were happy with just A's going into the season to see who might have grabbed the role.

Get what you're saying but I think the letters are a bit overblown. To me, the main role of the captain is more off ice than on. He's gotta give the most interviews to the media, he's expected to do more community events and appearances and things like that. It was given to Schenn because he's earned the respect of the front office and his teammates and because of his years of loyal service. I don't think it was forced at all, in fact I would have been shocked if it had been anyone but Schenn.

The thing is, you don't need a letter on your chest to be a good leader. All veterans should be contributing in some way, whether speaking up in the room, setting good habits off the ice or whatever it may be. I would hope players would take pride in their performance whether or not they have a letter on their chest. These guys are professionals who have been playing this game their whole lives, if they need a pep talk from the captain to get going then I question their competitiveness to begin with.

I just kind of roll my eyes when fans equate performance on the ice to who's wearing the C, as if we'd be much higher in the standings if they had named Thomas C or hadn't named anyone C. We sucked ROR's last year here and I think most fans would assume he's a "good" captain. I think people are grasping at straws looking for reasons to blame for the bad stretch when the simple answer is the team just isn't good enough right now.

There's not buy-out, there's nothing to really on the roster to buy-into. The folks trying the hardest and failing are the ones ofthen being criticized the most. This season is very much like last and nothing has changed to make it any better than next.

You can't think you'll get lucky with a blue chip in the draft and it suddenly moves the needle with this roster. It won't. This team needs a lot more than that and the players we got coming up either need more time or won't be the players we need to fill our holes.

My only question in all of this is what exactly is Army's plan? At this point in the game 'I don't know' or 'I'm trying to figure it out' doesn't cut it. The team is a mess, even with Thomas and Broberg back and there are a lot of things that need to be addressed.

I think the plan has always been to look outside the org to add pieces for the 2025-26 season. This is when we go from trying to improve to shifting gears to trying to build a team that can actually compete.

I'd be surprised if they don't make a big trade or significant FA acquisitions to fill one of those major pain points (C/D) before next season.

Yup! This was a W2 playoff team with our two best players. Yes, Broberg was one of our two best players.

Now? Not quite lottery, but one more key injury and the Blues approach lottery status.
