I choked on my breakfast when I saw Jay Beagle on a line with Ovechkin.

Same. But I thought they meant this:

Impressive firepower on the Caps' top two lines. Seems like the Jackets are due for a home stinker, just hopefully not tonight. Read in the paper that Torts had the players doing pushups during a PK drill because they didn't have their sticks down....wonder if the players take that seriously?

The next 3 games will reveal a lot to me about this team and their playoff chances this year. Washington-Rangers-@Washington. If the CBJ play well against this competition, and take a few points, they should hold up well against the Penguins, Devils, Flyers, Islanders and Hurricanes.

I still think the defense will take a step up about January - February of next year.

Those are some weird lines for the Capitals, although I get it that Trotz is trying to shake things up after losing 5-1. This is a big stretch of 3 games for the Jackets. We seem to play well against the Caps, so I'm hoping we win. If we can take 4 out of 6 points this week, that would be outstanding.

Agree...CBJ have had 3rd toughest NHL schedule ytd and will be likely have the toughest schedule by end of Sunday's game (According to Sagarin). Before season started, I think many us circled the Nov 20th game as the end of the initial benchmark test for the season. They've really been impressive to start the season. I'm among quite a few who thought we would be talking about the 2017 draft by Thanksgiving.

After this week, the schedule really looks favorable (as much as an NHL schedule can)... 7 of following 12 games are against Avs/Flames/Islanders/Canucks (all currently ranked 23rd+ in the league). They only have 2 games in that stretch vs teams ranked in league's top 10 (Tampa x2).

The Caps lines are deliberately spread to keep the team fresh for the playoffs. Heard Trotz talk about it.

So they're holding Ovi back a bit (good for us), but at the same time having 4 solid lines means they don't get flanked by the Jackets stacked bottom six (imagine Karlssons line against a real (weak) 4th line).

Also I can't believe this is our first division game. This schedule we've had, in addition to being difficult early on, is just rather goofy all the way around.

I have a feeling that Sedlak gets his first.

Beagle is a 4th liner, but his ability to win face-offs and check could give us fits.

I think Anderson / Wilson will be a thing to watch.

Hopefully we come to play and don't end up flat like we have off-and-on this season. Can't expect to win this one while giving up 40 shots and only managing 20.

I'd feel better if we had Seth Jones back. I'd also feel better if our penalty kill hadn't given up 4 to the Blues...

But after checking the percentages I found the Capitals are actually ranked 24th on the PowerPlay this year, a whopping 5 for 40. (In comparison, they finished last year ranked 5th PP)

Regardless, if we stay out of the box tonight.. I like our chances even more with Holtby resting.

It just looks tense to me. Neither team giving much ice to the other, and they change lines every 20 seconds! Epic Torts Trotz line matching battle.

Just re-upped my nhltv . Boy am I glad. What a game. :sarcasm:
Looked like same clunky Jackets to me. Hopefully periods 2 &3 will be better.

This is the first jackets game i have seen this year where they have played pretty boring hockey. The team started to pick it up in the last five mins, lets see if they can put together some sustained advantage, i thought the caps would score honestly.

Ps: cheers to my username being somewhat relative again
