You knew Buffalo was desperate, it was so obvious, but a lot of good feelings deflated to have a bottom team beat us - period.
The Senators have to be hungry and desperate every single game. We haven't made the playoffs in seven years. This was a terrible showing. That third period was sad. Also, Ullmark needs to be a lot better. We cannot go through this season winning one losing one and expect to get anywhere near the playoffs.

Too many passengers again...4th line is better than the 2nd line
I am beginning to wonder whether or not this team parties too much or something. What is the reason for their on again off again play?

Imo that 2nd line is soft. Its a pure skill line. Giroux is not the problem.

If you have to be 100% to have a chance to win, you're not good enough.

Ok but when are we going to actually be good on the road? We’re always going to play against a team that’s desperate, has a good goalie, has a good home record, has mezmerizing nice jerseys.

1-5 clearly means something is off.

Same core for years. Retool/rebuild it.

Questioned it all summer and people called me a pessimist.

I think almost everyone questioned it. It was always about making the playoffs rather than being a contender. This team was always going to be on the bubble to make it and nothing has changed now.People need to be realistic. This team has a track record of letting games slip. This team has a history of not playing consistent hockey.

The team is better this year at not letting things go off the rails and stringing losses. They look better than they did last year generally speaking. That said, still struggling mightily on the road which has been the case for years and something we saw under DJ Smith.

They still need Pinto, Zub and Perron back. All 3 guys who play an important role on this team. Our defence without Zub is essentially the same as past seasons, it’s not competitive in the NHL and even if they can hang around for a few games they are not good enough to get us to the expected level. With Zub they are about league average.

I’m not too worried for now. We will be fighting for a playoff spot. Will we make it there? Possibly, but it will depend on if we can stay healthy and if Ullmark can win us games.

It’s really difficult for me to understand this line of thinking from fans and the media.

If Buffalo is a bottom team then we are very much a bottom team ourselves. Bottom teams will win and lose games against other bottom teams. Why are people assuming that we are better than them before we have proved a single thing?

Buffalo is ONE point away from us in the standings. They finished with MORE points than us last season. How is Buffalo a bottom team? We are arguably in the same position as they are, maybe a bit better or a bit worse, but we are right there with them.

Every. Single. Game. Will. Be. A. Challenge. For. This. Roster.

We are not good enough to even mention the word bottom team when talking about an opponent. No wins should be expected.

There are no games we should expect to win during this season before the game is played. We are not Vegas or the Rangers. We have been one of the very worst teams in the NHL for years.

The media and the fans are doing themselves a disservice by expecting wins against teams they deem to be bottom teams, forgetting that we are very much a bottom team ourselves. We are just now TRYING to get out of the bottom, like Detroit and Buffalo and NYI and Washington and Pittsburgh and Columbus. This is the group of teams we are hanging around with, we are not much better or worse than these teams until we prove otherwise when March comes around.

My goal isn't for us to build a playoff team and plateau as a top 10-12 team and then rebuild in 6 years.

If this core doesn't look like it's on its way to a top 3-5 contender, then I'd rather scrap it and build a core that is.

Sens play down to their competition and they can’t play hard for more than 3 games in a row because they need a break to cherry pick and play the pond hockey they love to so much

No showing versus Montreal and Buffalo is inexcusable.

And IF I here 1 QUOTE ABOUT ATTENDANCE - SHOW UP FOR 82 GAMES FIRST SO I KNOW I WONT BE ROBBED OF MY $150 FROM PLAYERS THAT WANT TO PLAY COLLEGE HOCKEY AND NO SHOW IN AN NHL GAME.

The core.....needs to be shuffled around. Sad to admit, but its time. Only problem, is that the core is so tight that when its rocked, who knows how the rest will react.

The Hyperbolic Fan Boards site is fun to visit when they win but when they lose...I feel like I need to set up a help line.
Not impressed with the effort but not surprised. Hopefully part of the learning curve. There are no nights off for any team. They have to understand that you have to bring a consistent effort every night and even doing tgat, you will only win 60% of the time.

With all things being equal our best players do not match up with other teams best players well.

Buffalo is maybe an equivalent. And Montreal.

Tkatchuk stutzle Sanderson
Cozens Thompson Dahlin
Suzuki Canfield guhle.

All just kinda shit and 3 of the worst cores in the NHL.

Maybe phillys is worse. But they’re in the middle of a rebuild.

Cuz they’re not that good. Period.

We just didn’t get lucky with our rebuild. Weakest draft years kinda bad drafting. Now we’re stuck with this sort of Frankenstein team

I wouldn’t pin it on luck at all, just give us an average GM all this time and we’d most likely be a contender already.

We talked about it for years. We just couldn’t afford to keep Dorion and DJ that long, should have been canned after 8 games in 2020-21. That’s where the rebuild went sideways.

DJ didn’t instill good 2-way hockey but bad habits instead and Dorion kept throwing away assets with the worst asset management possible

No, Hale the Villain, me and others who kept banging this drum were not crazy. For the end result of what we were talking about, just look at the last 2-3 seasons and how it went.

All that said, there’s still hope that something good come out of it but the rebuild will never be as good as it could have been, NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Tear it down and restart. No point of wasting 5-10 more years on a half assed core that will never get anywhere.

I know we're sooooo bad that making the playoffs has become some ultimate goal for a while now, but the ultimate goal should always be to win the cup. If this core's potential is capped at a ~10th place team, why bother wasting time?

Spent a good hour talking to my buddies the other weekend...one being a wings fan, and one being a caps fan...they just went on and on about how amazing it was to win a cup...how magical their runs were...how they'll remember it a lifetime...how they felt like they won the cup themselves...on and on...

I've done the whole "make the playoffs every year"...I don't want to just make the playoffs for a few years and restart...I want to win a cup. I want to experience what most other fans have experienced...a championship in my lifetime.

For that, we need to be building a top 5 team that can make some noise. It's never a guarantee, but I hate wasting years or decades without ever really trying to ice a top 5 team. Just be happy to make the playoffs occasionally? f*** that.

We clearly outplayed them until late in the second. Board is overreacting on this one.

Their goalie was just better than ours. At the end of the day, the goalie cost us the last game plain and simple.

That 2nd line is soft, I agree, but Pinto back will alleviate pressure off it because Pinto's line will be a dual threat as it was early in the season.

We should invest in acquiring a legit starter who brings it almost every single game.

I don't remember Hasek or Anderson having many bad games. Unfortunately every other goalie we've had hasn't been a legitimate starter.

Dj should ah e been fired. I think this team is certainly better having had a bette coach when they were young.

But in terms of drafting?

Was Brady a bad pick? No. Was stutzle? No. Was Sanderson? No. And even then. They’re end enough. They can’t go head to head with other teams stars because other teams stars are better than them.

They needed to be coached to a TEE. And they were not.

They don’t have the skill to be a teams on skill.

And they don’t have the fundamentals to beat teams on that

They are players in complete limbo. Sanderson excluded but I think we and the coaches think Sanderson is something he’s not. Like the guy does nothing 5v5 and he gets some assists on the PP. he is not an offensive d man and likely never will be. He needs an elite partner an offensive one. Sanderson is the stabilizing force. Not the other way around.
