I was out but managed to catch a good chunk of the game.

Effort level was fine for the first two periods. They're just incapable of scoring a goal on top of a Torts team doing Torts things where they throw themselves into every shooting lane known to man.

Getting outworked like that in the third period though against a Philly team that had been struggling mightily in the past few? Yeesh.

Nobody is going to take this forward group and lead it to the promised land. I've been in Sweeney's corner since he became GM, but this off season he completely screwed the pooch. Thinking this forward group was gonna be good enough is sheer negligence.

So what do we do? Bring in a bottom pair defenseman for $5mil...That's not Zadorov's fault BTW, and I don't blame him. It was just such an unnecessary signing...Been saying it all summer.
Pasta isn't playing anywhere near a top 10 player. A top 10 wing? Maybe.

Here's the truly shocking thing to think about.......

This forward group is fully healthy and at full strength. Its literally the BEST group we can ice. I shudder to think about what's gonna happen when we start getting the odd injuries and have to start filling holes.

Mull that one over for a minute or two....

I think this is the team we are going to see this year. Not skilled, not fast, not tough, not in attack mode often enough. And a coaching staff that has no creativity with special teams. 4th line is a joy to watch, as they are relentless. Otherwise, I don't see much, and am unsure how the team can improve significantly.

Shitty phrasing, was out at the bar with the boys and a screen had the game on

i'd say the probably like 66% of the first two periods then stopped paying attention in the third when it was evident they stopped trying

Just in ...terrible game.

IMO they SHOULD be better.

Whomever is running the PP needs to stop and give someone else a shot.

The best player tonight was Korpi. At the end of the game the Bs circled around him...hopefully to tell him how sorry they were at how badly they sucked tonight.

They are just OFF...everyone.

I still believe they will improve but they need to soon.

They let the stinking flyers win....UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Maybe it's time to split up Lindholm and Pasta, been together all 10 games so far and it's just not clicking.

fill the holes in with Poitras, Geekie, Brazeau, and Johnson however you see fit. You can't keep trotting Coyle out on the 2nd line with the way he's looked, get him back with Freddy on the third line.

Some of those holes (Freddy, Geekie, Coyle, Zacha) NEED to be replaced the way they're playing...or NOT playing

..they look like freaking zombies just going thru the motions

This team has pretty much zero offensive skill.
And it's completely on the organization.

In the autopsy of the 2023-2024 season, pretty much all three levels of the team (coach, GM, president) agreed the reason why they got smashed by Florida. Florida beat them with a nasty forecheck that relied on a pretty unique combination of speed, skill and strength in today's NHL.

So the answer to this is obviously;

1) let the couple guys you have that have the speed/skill to match in Heinen and DeBrusk walk.

2) Pile up a bunch bigger forwards but forget the "speed" part

3) have this team try to run a dump and chase (no seriously what the f***, Monty?) system

It's not even me wanting to keep DeBrusk. He was too streaky and by the sounds of it didn't want to stay long term anyways. It's the fact you let a guy who is a bonafide top 6 forward walk away and decide to spend the money that should have been allocated for that spot on a big, dumb and slow Nikita Zadorov

Like look at this list of guys they could have had for around the same money they gave to Zadorov. (also not on this list is Jeff Skinner and Vladimir Tarasenko)

I never thought I'd think Korpisalo was the best player on the ice for them. Definitely didn't see that coming, but this team is really really bad and without some of his big saves it wasn't close.

Everyone's already said it but most of all this team is SLOW. Being slow, that effects every other aspect of the game and they just plod along methodically but getting nowhere and generating almost no offense at all.

I've seen a bunch of other teams in this division and they just about all look better. Even Ottawa and Buffalo look like they could blow past this group easily. They have gone out to build a team for the playoffs that won't even be in the playoffs.
