I'm probably going to be a bit saltier than usual and I don't mean to be.

It's just that some of you are not at all prepared for the possibility that we're the second best team in this series, and if we lose, the only explanation that's going to make sense in your brain is that we didn't work hard enough, blind Panarin bashing, or both. I don't wanna read that all summer after last summer was mostly pleasant.

The Devils are good and will be good for awhile. Please accept that for the sake of my sanity.

I'm cautiously optimistic with this series. After what happened with Edmonton last night, anything is possible.

It depends what you mean by team.

We are inconsistent and rarely have strong teamwork. We are not a cohesive unit. You're seeing both things and are coming to the wrong conclusion. Burnette's attack is beatable IF YOU HAVE ANY SEMBLANCE STRUCTURE. That doesn't come to roster. That's coaching.,

Our roster is 100% better than Jersey. I don't think it's even close. They have some great young talent. Both things are true.

I gave this a like but I also don't foresee any level headed posts like this on the Devils board.

They're excited to be here.

We have all this pressure now because we advanced last year which is dumb.

If this is the hill you want to die on, I can live with the coach bashing because I don't give a f*** about coaches.

Same goes for goaltenders.

I do think most of the board has been relatively level headed about this series and the Rangers chances. Of course there are people who are overly optimistic homers like @McRanger92 but it's fine, it balances out all the eternal pessimists like myself lol.

He's just the only one who's just gonna out and out say he thinks the Devils are an ECHL team, whereas most like to keep it close to the vest.

If we lose, there's going to be plenty of [insert nails on chalkboard here] and actual discussions on how the team could be better will be lost in the shuffle as always.

Part of that is because of exactly because it is NJ. No one wants to see those losers succeeding.

Yeah that's probably true, it's hard to admit when your team isn't talented or skilled enough so people fall back on other things like coaching or effort or being physical.

I don’t think it’s dumb we have pressure this year. We went to the conference finals last year it’s logical to want to take a step forward and win the cup.

But year to year progress isn't linear. A tournament in 2022 has absolutely nothing to do with a tournament in 2023.

Top pair D-man Kevin Bahl? We are so much better than this team.

Look at the scores last night. Everything close and low scoring. Once the time and space goes away, I have my doubts the Devils can consistently play in our zone 5v5. And are their goalies going to make a big save in a close game late? Vanacek was getting pulled against Florida last year and Blackwood has never played a meaningful game in his career. We know Igor is coming to play.

Manage the puck in the neutral zone and play below the goal-line in the OZ and this series can be over quickly. It's not the Devils year yet, and the Rangers have business to attend to. LGR.
Come on. You don't actually believe this do you?

If you believe this then you are 100% certain we will lose. Structure won't magically show up because its the playoffs.

I'm sure y'all have seen the Biosteel commercial with McDavid and Makar.

Imagine one for Panarin and Hughes:

Hughes: Panarin is constantly trying to make those east-west passes. Get into the passing lanes.

Panarin: Need to keep trying to get the puck to my buddies Kane and Tarasenko. Should be able to get it by Hughes. [All in Russian]

Hughes: Panarin is back on the ice. Quick, quick, get ready to receive his pass!

Right but our core is still here from last year. It’s natural to expect them to break through after making it far. Be honest the devils are a good team but a first round exit would be a major disappointment.

Agreed. This is probably our best chance to win the cup. I doubt our teams over the next few years will be more talented this one.

Which is probably where a lot of the optimism comes from - this is our best chance for the next 10 years unless one of our prospects takes a shocking and totally unseen leap. The Devils are going to be great for a very long time, as are other teams that give us issues like Buffalo and Detroit, maybe even Ottawa. They better make this run count.

I can tell you one thing, whoever comes out of this series will be springboarded into another level of play.

There is nothing like the elevation of a Rangers-Devils series.
