Not salary, but cap? From what I saw, Gabby is owed $1.7 for the rest of the season. How much is the CBJ on the hook for - 15%? 50%?
I think it's addition by subtraction. I would have liked to see them get more help on D. But, Gabby didn't create anything and we weren't as strong when he was in the lineup. People forced passes his way instead of shooting themselves.
Everyone seems to have the mindset of NHL '95 for Sega, load it up with goal scorers and they have to work together, well he didn't work or work hard.
Case of beer that Gaborik scores more goals than Frattin over remaining regular season
We just went 3-1-0 with him back in the lineup. Try finding some shred of evidence "he didn't work or work hard"
Did you watch the games?? He was invisible, his goal was lucky, landed in his lap. He took 3 TOTAL shots in 3 games and had one SECONDARY assist. I was at the Toronto game and he wasn't dangerous even once. Is he not supposed to be "an elite scorer?" Shouldn't such a player get 4-5 shots a game? Earlier in the year he went shotless in a weekend home and home with Pitt. He just didn't skate hard, go to the hard areas or go hard to the net, period. LA didn't trade for what he has been with Cbus, they traded, like we did, for what they hope to be the Gaborik of 5 years ago. They will be disappointed...
Justin Bourne's take (from Backhand Shelf):

I agree with Justin Bourne.

Sounds like Gaborik wasn't exactly Jarmo's favorite player. Says trade was a mistake, takes responsibility for it
Howson got crushed when he traded Carter - for what turned out to be a great return.
Jarmo trades his star offensive acquisition for a horrible return, and nothing but praise all around
Obviously, with Carters term a better return was possible, but still.

Are the Blue Jackets better today? If I'm a Blue Jacket fan, today is what counts now, there's been enough of waiting for tomorrow. What do you guys say?

We, unequivocally, did not get better today. Did we get worse? Depends on who you ask. I think we got worse simply by not keeping pace with the moves that were made by teams around us in the standings.

For the purposes of this season, no, we're worse off. All but 2-3 fans want to make the playoffs and I'd argue that hoping that Gaborik could stay healthy and plot 7-8 goals for the rest of the season>>>>>>>>Matt Frattin+a 2nd
(I think we could have got a 3rd for his rights before the draft)
Does anyone know what the conditions are for the 3rd rounder? Games played? How far LA goes in the playoffs? What?
I'd prefer to call Gaborik a declining, injury prone floater than a star offensive forward, considering how he played this year.Howson got crushed when he traded Carter - for what turned out to be a great return.
