The difference between Nash last year and Gaborik this year is that we don't need Gaborik to "do a bit of everything"

If he's wearing the "C", I'd expect more for other facets of the game.

I'd even go so far as to say that when he was acquired, he was told, by management and coaching "just play your game".

And I'm fine with that.

We have a wealth of guys that go into the dirty areas, wealth of guys that can win faceoffs, wealth of hard backcheckers... We needed an elite offensive skill guy.

I doubt anybodys looking at Gaborik in the lockerroom and wondering why he isn't doing more in other facets of the game.

I hate to use the term "Specialist", but its his role, Offensive Specialist, no sense dancing around it.
Well said. :handclap:

Truth.
Rick Nash was the Blue Jackets. Gaborik is just one of the Blue Jackets.

Nobody? I knew that a lot of people don't like Russians and other Eastern Europeans, but calling us "nobodies" is too much :sarcasm:

We had a pretty long conversation regarding possible trade for Gaborik on April 1st (in Russian though): http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...df476486f6c4b4cb961+&cd=1&hl=ru&ct=clnk&gl=us

I said that the Jackets should try to get him since the price must be low and he worth it. Some other people didn't want him and called him a "figure skater". But at least we exchanged our opinions :)

Wow! A Russian Blue Jackets board? Tight!

There's a difference in discussing if a trade would be a good idea and expecting it to come to pass.

5pts 2 goals 3assists +3 in 4 games. Not to shabby. Depending on how well this draft goes and the potential for Murray next season, i am more excited to be a :cbj fan than ever before.

Told you guys he's a beast offensively, very smart guy. He put up 86 and 76 points in his healthy years with us, did i mention 42 goals a piece in each season? He's an insane talent. Can score from anywhere, is one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and is a better scorer than Nash ever was. I still miss Gabs. For some reason, our Rangers front office really wanted Nash, and paid a hefty price for him. I still think Gaborik is better than him. He may not get around defenders like Nash, but his shot is a laser, he skates like the wind, and he has a personality. The guy plays his own formula -1 arcade game in his home. The virtual driver thing with the wheel lol he's a speedster. Enjoy guys, good luck the rest of the way!

IF Gabby was USA or Canadian player he would be lock in each one teams franchise...he could spend whole career in one team BUT hes not...therefore each one team will prefer USA born player with similar stats before european player...so this is how Gabby become expendable in NY and I like it because now we can see Gabby v.2.0

i cant believe there is still someone who can make fun of his speed...yesterday he was at the beginning of whole action which led to 4th goal...in his own zone passing behind net to Prospal...and then...boom and hes in front of Alen deflecting Letestus shot with one hand...right to the face to all naysayers :handclap:

Yea, the speed he showed to "catch" the play was incredible. Came out of nowhere.

I'm loving me some Gabby! Nash who?

For example Viqsi like Nashville. Why? I have no idea.

They play like the team I always wanted us to be. Y'know, like us this year. :)

Also:
1) One of my closest friends for years is a dedicated Preds fan,
2) I have quite a lot of family in the Nashville area; many of them are also Preds fans, and
3) Balsillie's hamfisted attempt to drag the team out of the city whether he had the legal right to do so or not engendered sympathy from me towards the Preds in general.

As for the actual topic... Gaborik so far seems to be fitting in beautifully. Which is awesome, because I was extremely concerned about whether or not that would work out (and why I was initially kind of ambivalent about any possible Gabby acquisition).

So far he's showing that those worries were misplaced. Which is very encouraging. :D

We now have two scoring lines: (1) whoever plays along with Gabby; and (2) whoever plays along with the Mighty Midgets.

After reading that Gaborik was loathe to backcheck, one play stood out to me, last night. There was a turnover in our offensive zone and Gaborik turned on the jets to keep us out of a two on one. The defenseman made a good play to turn the puckcarrier outside, while Gabby came back so hard that he deposited the other rusher into the net! I liked that.

I think a lot of people are missing the mental element that has recharged his game.

In New York he was on a team of superstars in Nash, Richards, Lundqvist and a few future ones in Stepan, Hagelin and McDonogh.

Here, he is the star. All attention will be on him and I think that's where he will thrive.

As a NYR fan who has a Gaborik jersey, I have to say I have not seen Gaborik turn on the jets like that for a long time.

I think it might be pointing the finger that Torts was the wrong coach for him.

I hope his tons of success at the Columbus Rangers ;)

New York Blue Jackets fan.

In the case of Lubomir Visnovsky, once he was traded from Edmonton to Anaheim, his NTC was no longer valid. Not sure if this is a blanket rule for all NTCs in contracts, however my assumption would be that this is the case, particularly with the hubbub that came out of that situation.

The way it is written, the NTC should be valid
