Based off of...

Maybe because his contract is big and his achievments arent so good like we expected. Bt hte question is... would be it right? R.J. maybe isnt great in regular season but he is very good in PO and he has winning character what is the thing what we need.

I have no idea who you were talking to, but unless you are from NY there is no time or place to be a Rangers fan. Now others might try and convince you otherwise, but they would be misguided or just like to attempt to buy championships.

Having said that, cheer for who you want to. If you like Brassard, Nash, and Dorse, go for it. You like who you like, don't worry about what the rest of us think. Sure I'll talk trash, but it's all in good fun. I don't really mean anything by it when I talk trash about it. For example Viqsi like Nashville. Why? I have no idea. Even so, I look past that. It's personal preference. It's like those crazy people that like coffee flavored ice cream What is wrong with them? Or banning large soda's? Like that is going to have any meaningful impact on the obesity problem.

So support NY if you like. Sure, I'll joke around say you are crazy. But I won't mean it. I've had plenty of friends that are/where Michigan fans. No harm came to them or me.

who are you, and what have you done with blahblah? :sarcasm:

Whoa whoa whoa! That's not fair at all!

Based on the conversation about guys already signed and not likely to be moved, plus the desire for more offense, a roster position has got to come from somewhere. It's either Dubinsky or Umberger and even though he's been injured, I suspect Dubinsky means more to this club.

So that leads me to believe Umberger's days here are numbered.

Gabroik is okay. I'm not a huge fan of his play style as he is basically a giant floater; however he's putting up points so I don't really care.

I like Gabby so far. Easily has the best IQ on the team and obviously has a good skillset to go along with it. I wish if he'd get his hands dirty more often along the boards, but I suppose that's not something he's done much of over his career.

When Gabby is on he's extremely dangerous, he is an opportunistic scorer. Some say floater, but floaters don't cut the mustard in today's NHL. He can not get his hands dirty yet still be responsible and efficient. And if you want him around longterm you deal with the fact he won't get involved like a power forward. He has alot of miles on him and I believe he played the way he did in NY this year was to save his body from getting banged up anymore than it has been. He still crashed the net and went all out on the scoring chances he had here.

It's not much of an option for him. He can't outmuscle anyone, can't stickhandle through people, and can't even play that strong on the puck. Maybe we're better off with him lurking about.

Gaborik is an assassin. He is what he is at this point and there's no changing him.

Just like there's no changing Nash. He grew up in the NHL doing it all himself. That's why he couldn't even blend enough with Crosby to stay on his line through the entirety of the Olympics

Totally agree on Gaborik. He may not muck it up, but he seems to find the right spot to be without the puck more often than not. I'm interested in seeing if he brings it a little more next year with a full summer to recuperate and a full training camp.

Nash had a great Olympics, IMO. Maybe not in goal scoring, but given his role on the team he was fast and worked hard in front of the opponents net. I thought Crosby had a forgetful Olympics until that game-winning goal.

That's how I remember Nash's Olympics as well, dominating with Toews and Mike Richards. Gaborik isn't remotely as versatile.

Gaborik is a pure sniper. He can score a lot goals on breakaways using his speed and when he is in the offensive zone he knows how to get lost in coverage. You wont notice him at all in the offensive zone and then boom he scores a goal . His game is kind of similar to Pavel Bure, but he is not as good as Bure was.

If you want him digging pucks out of corners and winning board battles you traded for the wrong player. Its not his game and he will struggle doing that. You got to overlook some of his weaknesses as a player because of his scoring ability. A good coach will know how to maximize Gaborik's ability and not try to turn him into something he's not.

The difference between Nash last year and Gaborik this year is that we don't need Gaborik to "do a bit of everything"

If he's wearing the "C", I'd expect more for other facets of the game.

I'd even go so far as to say that when he was acquired, he was told, by management and coaching "just play your game".

And I'm fine with that.

We have a wealth of guys that go into the dirty areas, wealth of guys that can win faceoffs, wealth of hard backcheckers... We needed an elite offensive skill guy.

I doubt anybodys looking at Gaborik in the lockerroom and wondering why he isn't doing more in other facets of the game.

I hate to use the term "Specialist", but its his role, Offensive Specialist, no sense dancing around it.

Excellent analysis, KBW (which means it agrees with mine!).

His goal, last night, was a perfect example - he lurked, flashed across the goal-mouth, gathered the puck, waited for Niemi to commit, then easily deposited the puck in the open net. It looked so easy! Foligno, for example, works so hard to get through traffic, makes some world-class moves to get into position, then flubs the shot. "Some cats got it, and some cats ain't" (words to live by, courtesy of those great philosophers of the '50s and '60s, The Coasters).

Truth.
Rick Nash was the Blue Jackets. Gaborik is just one of the Blue Jackets.

Actually, math makes him more likely to stay. A 4.6 million dollar 3rd/4th liner is a "luxury" fewer teams will be able to afford.

But hey, who knows what they'll do. Nobody saw the Gaborik trade coming...

Nobody? I knew that a lot of people don't like Russians and other Eastern Europeans, but calling us "nobodies" is too much :sarcasm:

We had a pretty long conversation regarding possible trade for Gaborik on April 1st (in Russian though): http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...df476486f6c4b4cb961+&cd=1&hl=ru&ct=clnk&gl=us

I said that the Jackets should try to get him since the price must be low and he worth it. Some other people didn't want him and called him a "figure skater". But at least we exchanged our opinions :)
