There's a reason he was available.

Think about what team traded him. Ya think they could use some high end skill on the backend? Every team does, but the BJ's should be stockpiling those guys, instead JK & JD took a look at their team and decided this was a guy they could afford to deal.

I would have asked for Dalton Prout, RH tough, alot like Mark Stuart of the Jets. I hope we had tried to pry him away and had to settled for Moore.

Columbus is actually very deep at defense. They have their current NHLers (Johnson, Wisniewski, Tyutin, Prout, Nikitin, Aucoin) , and they have players like Murray, Erixon (in the NHL now but he's part of their upcoming top-4), Savard, and they had Moore in there as well.

This team is starting to look last year's team but with different names.

I think it was a terrible time to trade Gaborik... Superstar having a terrible season coming off of shoulder surgery. Of course he isn't going to get much in return.

I am happy though the team is toughing up. It's not like Gaborik was really producing anyway.

Columbus has Nikitin, Tyutin, Jack Johnson, Wisniewski, Savard, Erixon, Ryan Murray, Cody Goloubef... pretty back logged on defense. Considering they're a playoff team who is at the bottom of the league in scoring, defense is clearly not their problem. Moore is a good player who will get more chances here because our depth drops off significantly after #5.

so under contract next yr they have assuming Clowe is signed which I am sure he will be in no order and assuming RFA's are signed

Clowe, Richards, Nash
Brassard, Stepan, Callahan
Hagelin, Boyle, Dorsett
Pyatt, Powe, Asham
Kreider, Miller, Zuccarello

I am going to imagine that Kreider and Miller will be given spots if they earn it during camp. They could find a taker for Pyatt then and maybe Boyle while signing a top Winger?

Wasn't floored by the return, but I'll credit Sather for addressing a number of holes in trade for a guy that I didn't think was going to last the summer here.

Still though, I'm not sold on Brassard being much more than he is, and Moore is still a wildcard (albeit a good looking one).

As is I'm pretty neutral on this trade, would have liked it a lot more if the 6th was a 3rd or 4th, but it's a crap shoot anyways.

That's it!

I don't care where we are currently but this better get us a Cup. None of this ******** I heard about it being a shortened season, injuries, players not being motivated, whatever. Enough excuses. I want the Cup.

No Cup? Get Torts the hell away from this team and someone rid Sather from his duties. Enough.

I don't know if these guys had enough time but if they take the Delta flight leaving at 4:23 Flight from Columbus they can't get to New York by 6:23.

CMH
4:23p
JFK
6:23p
2h 00m
nonstop

Unless the Rangers charter a plane for them. Can you get to the Garden from JFK by 7:30? Probably although it's a tough time of night. Perhaps the Rangers can call in a favor and get a police escort!

The reason is that they must feel Erixon, Savard and Murray are who they want to keep along with Wiz and JJ as their puck-movers. Too many. Sather may have asked specifically about Moore.

Wow there is a lot of hate in this thread for the return we got. All in all I can't say I'm disappointed or surprised at what we got. Brassard is 2nd/3rd line center on a reasonable contract who will still be RFA and controllable. Dorsett is Brandon Prust but cheaper, tough and physical, hits everything and fights anybody. Moore has steady 2nd pairing potential that he should reach, similar to Brady Skjei but farther along and ready to play as a bottom pair guy. Would have preferred Savard. Sure a high draft pick would have been great, we all want to replace the 1st/2nd that we traded but for a guy making 7.5 per who is ufa after next year and having a down year this is just not that bad.

What is the scouting report on Dorsett?

Ryan Hollweg

He's definately not Prust. He's significantly lesser of a fighter than Prust is. Goes with anyone, but won't win more than he loses like Brando did.

He's a better pure energy guy than Prust is. Will throw big hits, get the crowd going.

Prust is a better all around player IMO. I dont dislike him as a player. I certainly love my energy guys, however the Rangers IMO already have Dorsett in the system and they already tossed him in Hartford. (Haley). Except...Haley is an exceptional fighter.

In a way, I agree with the people who say that this team looks a lot more like last year's team with just different faces. Although I take Nash over Gaborik every day.

Selling Dorsett pretty short.

Should send a message to Richards too..

"We just traded away our elite sniper, You better step it up of you're next"..

Brassard has been mediocre his entire career. People here keep talking about his upside, people have been talking about his upside for years now. When is that upside coming?

I'm not overly enthusiastic about this trade, but the same mediocracy you describe about Brassard could be said about Anisimov.

In the end we now have the grit and depth we've been missing this season. Next season, when Kreider and Miller are ready for some real top-9 action, we can use this depth to find a scorer that gives 100% every night.

Lets be honest, this team needed to address 3rd line center, toughness, and a PMD and we give up our streaky $7.5m sniper to do so.

Would have rather paid up for Prust and gotten Clowe to give our top guys more breathing room, but unfortunately this is the kind of trade that had to be done. I wish MG10 the best.

Richards wasn't from Columbus

See: Rick Nash
That's good and all, but Nash is playing on a very good offensive line with the Minnesota Jesus. Brassard will probably be playing with Boyle and Clowe, whom have 1 goal combined. There's not going to be a lot of opportunities to start putting pluses on the board.

Dorsett is not as good a fighter as Prust was. They're relatively the same size. Dorsett is more than willing though and there's a bit of 'He's nuts!' factor--as an example he instigated a fight with John Scott a couple years ago--about the equivalent of Zuccarello picking a fight with someone like Matt Carkner. He is fearless and over time he's gradually gotten to be a decent contributor if you're talking about a bottom 6 forward.
