Before these trades I can tell you teams were not afraid to play against us. We were extremely soft. Once Dorsett gets better and back in the lineup, and now with Clowe, other teams will think a bit differently now.

Agree 100%. In all honesty, we were among the weakest, and least physically intimidating teams in the league. Things have definitely changed with the recent moves.

Maybe too much though.

This is one of those situation where you have to wait and see. If the lieces fall into place, I have a feeling that I will really enjoy watching this team.

....Its scary how different this team is from two years ago. A team really liked, BTW

Also CBJ guys have history, and chemistry with their former captain in Nash. Will help lockeroom, since there are homegrown pieces there, both from NY and CBJ. Dorsett will be loved by fans. Absolutely fearless and will sell out every chance he gets.

I would have much preferred Burmistrov + 1st for Gabs but hey.

We don't even know that it was ever an option.

For those who were clamoring for a 1st. My guess is that Jarmo wanted to trade Brassard Dorsett and LA 1st for Gaborik. Slats wanted a more ready prospect such as Moore instead of the 1st.

I could be way off base but that is my guess...

I don't think the Rangers are a better team right now because of this trade, but they can't be worse either.

Just a weird season. And its not even over yet.

Where's Meisel? A book has to be written.

Yeah, and he's gotten banged up doing in said system, which leads me to believe that he was mailing it in to save his body for the walk year. Watch him crack 9M on a cap hit next season, can do things at will that few can.

How is the system to blame for him getting banged up? The system requires a lot of players to play hard on the boards and block shots but Gaborik didn't do either of those things regularly despite the fact that other players did. He's been hurt on and off his whole career.

If he gets 9M, I'll be surprised. He has done what few can. That doesn't mean he still can. I'm not saying he can't, but until he proves it again, it's a question.

Goals. Considering that is about his career average.

Give me a ****ing break. You go on and on about how Gabby has been off this year while claiming he will suck forever, but even though Clowe has zero goals this year, he's going to revert to his career average?

Holy hypocrite batman.

Clowe will be loved by fans

Dorsett will be loved by fans

We sure have alot of love to give.

I think this trade theoretically gets us back to where we were before the Nash trade

one goal scorerer away from a legit contender...at least on paper

What I love, is people think Gaborik is finished because of his slow production from this season, and look at his past as no way to measure the player he is.

Yet, those same people are excited to add Clowe, who has 0 goals this season in 28 contests, and using his past as a validation to his worth.

Irony much?

Great point. The only thing we can hope as Optimistic Ranger fans is that Clowe finds his offensive game with a change of scenery. The Clowe trade ironically enough was the reason why Gabby was probably shopped in order to shed salary.
So it comes down to whether Gabby was gonna find his game and start scoring OR somehow Clowe starts putting the puck in the net as a power forward. I think TOrts/Sather believed in the latter.

People here seem to think this trade makes it more likely Richards gets bought out in the summer. I think it makes it less likely

I cant believe people think Ryane Clowe will return to 20 goal seasons, but Gaborik will never again even hit 30.. Wtf is wrong with this board

Took some time to think about this before posting.

I have been in the Fire Torts/Trade Gaborik wagon since last season. At the very least one of them had to go. Considering that McD, Hags, and Stepan all need to be resigned, I think a Gaborik trade was inevitable. It was either today or at the draft.

I guess my biggest disappointment was the lack of a 1st rounder in return. Draft day is like a holiday for me! But I think once Dorsett gets healthy and these guys get some time to play people will be happy with the trade.

Well yeah it was never said one way or the other, I was just thinking out loud. I was clamoring for a 1st. But don't forget, a lot of us are only voicing our opinions based on what we would personally do. None of us are GMs and we can agree or disagree with GMs if we want, but I personally would rather have the first.

We were one goal scorer away with Gaborik. Now we're one goal scorer away with Nash instead.

Well, Sharks fans have said that Clowe has been solid this year and injured and now that he has had some rest has been much better.

Gaborik, on the other hand, has been dreadful all year and is by all accounts healthy.

You decide.

I can't wait until people see how different this Ranger team is in the next couple weeks. This team just got 50x tougher to play against. Just counting the days until Dorset comes back :yo:

From a Rangers perspective, I guess it all comes down to if the Rangers are a tougher team before or after this trade. Were other teams worried about Gabby this year? I'm asking that honestly because what I saw tells me there is no way they should have been worried.

Yes, I think Gabby will play much better in Cbus. When it's not a fit you need a change.
