Agreed. If he doesn't show more as the season goes on he's going to be due some more Iowa time, I think.
Rossi had good shifts in the first period. But in the second, the shifts became less and less. In the 3rd period he was benched. After playing 21 shifts in the first 2 games with 4th liners, sitting in the press box VS Colorado & destroying his confidence, what do you expect?

Rossi did nothing wrong tonight and got benched in the third.

21 shifts the first two games, press boox in the third game and 10:59 TOI on the 4th game isn't exactly what I'd call an opportunity. But maybe I'm wrong.

But I agree: Send him down to Iowa until Dean is fired. He should play 18+ minutes a night for Iowa. It makes no sense up here if Evason doesn't trust him. TOI between 4 and 10 minutes a night won't help him develop here.

Look at this...

Zuccarello...goals: 2, assists: 1, shots: 7, TOI: 22:35.
Kaprizov...goals: 1, assists: 2, shots: 7, TOI: 24:09.

Great, but those heavy minutes can't continue all season long.

I'm not blaming Rossi, or dissing him, I'm just saying that he hasn't used the time he's been given all that well, yet. It doesn't matter why. If his confidence is shot, he's not ready yet and more NHL time may only hurt it further. He didn't do anything wrong, but he also didn't do anything that was all that good, so if he isn't able to affect the play that much, he's probably not ready yet.

Or, maybe this was just a bad game, or he had jitters, and he'll improve from here out. Like you said, he hasn't had a long opportunity yet, so we don't really know. But if he needs Iowa time, he needs it. That doesn't make him a bust or anything.

I think one of the (many) downsides of this team dropping games out of the gate like it has is that it's really narrowed the tolerances for Rossi. I don't think he's been very good, but ideally he'd have some room early in the season to make some mistakes and not end up on the bench. Hasn't really been the case with the team losing like they have, though.
