G Zach Fucale (2013, 36th, MTL)

Doesnt excuse his inability to track the puck.

Im willing to give him some leniency because that was a 3in3, but he should've been pulled at the end of the 2nd.

Seeing as it's been shown that goalies usually do worse on the 2nd half of a back-to-back, it's not that surprising that he wouldn't be at his best playing 3 games in 3 nights.

His short comings all season were disregarded because "all he does is perform in big games" and "they didn't acquire him for the regular season" and then when he has bad showings in big games, there's a dozen new excuses lmao

btw the 3 games in 3 nights excuse is bad math.

He only played half the Rimouski game because he was pulled. He played the 2nd Rimouski game. Then if you think of when he should have been pulled in this Kelowna game, in the 2nd period, he really only played 2 games worth of minutes in those 3 nights.

Showed for the embarrassing loss big time

Funny what happens when you don't have a stacked junior team in front of you to mask your inability to stop pucks

Lol, remember the hype he got by Button prior to the draft? Saying he was going to be a franchise goalie. He honestly must be the most overrated prospect of the past few years.

^^^^ this! He played on some really, really good teams to set him up for success, he will bounce around in the ECHL and AHL maybe get a few NHL games in before he disappears to europe

How many goalies with as bad of junior numbers have made the NHL as even a poor back up? Like 5%?

His statistics when he was drafted were tremendous. Goalies are voodoo.

Let's see how he does in the AHL. I've been hard on the kid, as I think he was very overrated for a while, but nothing is set in stone.

Im talking about in-season, not a season by season comparison. I watch the games using hockeystreams.com like most others...

Yeah, so am I. Catching a stream every once in a while obviously hasn't given you enough exposure to Fucale. His career regular season SV% is 0.897, and he posted monthly SV%s within 1% of that in something like 15 times (i.e. the vast majority of his career in the regular season). That's pretty consistent.

They lost because Quebec did not score 10 goals how can you win without goal support:laugh:

They lost because they didn't have the legs left to come back in the 3rd from the hole their PK made for them in the 2nd. Defensive coverage was atrocious, as were discipline and faceoffs. A tired team doesn't need to be chasing a rested team winning faceoffs all night.

Good thing Price is still young cause Fucale is terrible. I haven't really watched him much on TV but I watched him close during memorial cup and I am not impressed at all.

Canadian goalies are always overrated.

Which ones?

Who's overrated Fucale? Talking about Halak here? Well this overrated goalie has done great for the Isles didn't he? Did St.Louis looked better with Miller when Halak was gone? Who else was overrated? Oh yeah...nobody. It's not like we started a "Who is better than Justin Pogge" thread years ago.....I know I didn't overrated Fucale 'cause I'm not a fan. But to wait at the end of yesterday's game to claim how bad he is? Where were you during the Q Cup finals? Where were you at the start of this Mem Cup?

It's pretty obvious to determine who has NHL potential even in junior. Among the recent prospects, goalies like Calvin Pickard, Skapski, Bartosak would manage to keep decent numbers and save % dispite being peppered with shots every game playing on average or less teams. Others like Fucale would face 19 shots and allow 4 goals or get 15 sv shutout. It's prety obvious he has great defense in front of him bailing him out and he couldn't do the same for his team even when facing limited chances.

Are you sure he didn't mean goalies from Canada?

For what it's worth, I have the most posts in this thread, and I criticized him when he won his Q title in 2013. In 2012, you can see I'm a huge Fucale fan actually. I watched him all season & in the playoffs and the guy won me over in a huge way, hell I was comparing him to #1 overall pick MA Fleury (not in style, in junior hype).

My criticism started in May of 2013 leading up to the 2013 Memorial Cup. I wasn't calling him a bad goalie but I could see that he was getting overrated big time. His role on the team was being blown way out of proportion and I wasn't buying it at all. I took it on the chin for a while as Fucale walked to a Memorial Cup Championship but his lack of improvement over the last 2 years hasn't drawn me back in. Most of the accomplishments he has are team accomplishments (wins, championships, gold medals, etc.) while his individual play hasn't been improving.

I'm not directing this 100% at you because your post wasn't directed at me. There's always someone who acts like the posts in here are reactionary to a loss or Hab haters but my praises & criticisms go well beyond his draft day, his memorial cup, his second memorial cup appearance, his U20 performances, etc.

Yeah, pretty much. Even a guy like Jake Paterson, who's a longshot at best, managed to put up a respectable SV% every year in Saginaw despite playing infront of a horrible team that allowed 35+ shots a game every year and a ton of scoring chances.

You can rock in important games in juniors all you want, but once you're in the pro's, you'll never get a chance to play in any important games unless you can put up good numbers consistently. An 89.7 career SV% just doesn't cut it. And 87.7 in 17 games in the regular season, as a 20 year old, playing for one of the best teams in the Q is alarmingly bad.

I dont really have anything against Fucale. I just find it very hard to see how he has NHL potential. I think the best thing for Montreal would be to trade him while he still has value. Its not like they need a goalie anytime soon.

Yeah yeah yeah go look at Patrick Roy's SV% from when he was playing in the Q.
